Once you’ve been to one of these viewpoints in Lisbon, you’ll get the best photos ever.
But here’s an invitation to go to a viewpoint and do nothing else. After all, sometimes we lack moments of pure contemplation.
Religion, politics and favorite viewpoints are not debatable. So here’s a list of the viewpoints in Lisbon that await you every day, free of charge and with open gates.
In this list, you’ll find the viewpoints that are considered official by the Lisbon City Council, because if we were to list places where the view of the city is breathtaking, it would be almost infinite.
Miradouro da Basílica da Estrela
Did you know that you can go up to the terrace of the Royal Basilica of Estrela? From there, you have a 360º view over Jardim da Estrela, from where you can see the Castle and also the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Penha de França Viewpoint
A small viewpoint, but with an incredible view of the Tagus Valley!

Conde de Óbidos Rock Viewpoint
Less well known than most viewpoints, this is a good option to escape the tourist routes.
Right on the river and next to the National Museum of Ancient Art, from here you can also enjoy a view of the Tagus.

Senhora do Monte Viewpoint
If you want one of the most beautiful views in Lisbon, this is the place. Now, if you’re in a quieter mood, it’s best to go when the sun has gone down.

Belém Tower Viewpoint
Not much explanation is needed: the Belém Tower alone is worth a visit, but the view from the tower’s terrace makes it even better.

Portas do Sol Viewpoint
This is one of Lisbon’s most classic viewpoints, from where you can see the beautiful and traditional Alfama.
Situated on the hill of São Vicente, it’s certainly the most impressive viewpoint in the city.

Santa Catarina Viewpoint
The Santa Catarina viewpoint, also known as the Adamastor view point, is a real meeting point.
There you can always find people gathering for drinks while listening to good music. From here you can also see Lisbon’s port area and the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Santa Clara Viewpoint
Located in Campo de Santa Clara, right next to the National Pantheon, this is where the famous Feira da Ladra, Lisbon’s oldest antiques fair, is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The viewpoint is located at a high point in the city, overlooking the River Tagus.

Santa Luzia Viewpoint
We could bet that half the photos taken in Lisbon are taken here. Jokes aside, this viewpoint is really beautiful, from where you can observe the labyrinths of Alfama and the Tagus or even have a date.

Santo Amaro Viewpoint
Some viewpoints are more hidden than others, such as Santo Amaro.
Located on the sidewalk that bears the same name as the viewpoint, it’s one of the places left in Lisbon to make yourself at home, as it’s almost always deserted.

Santo Estêvão Viewpoint
Believe it or not, you can still hide in Alfama. This viewpoint is located next to the Church of Santo Estêvão.
So now you know, if you need a break after wandering the streets of the neighborhood, there’s somewhere to rest!

São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint
How long have you been waiting for that day when all you want to do is pick up a book and spend the day at a viewpoint?
This is the ideal place, with a beautiful garden and a lovely view of São Jorge Castle.

São Jorge Castle Viewpoint
São Jorge Castle is incredible from up close, from afar and from inside. Just as it can be seen from various points in the city, when you’re inside, you get a very complete view of Lisbon.

Monte Agudo Viewpoint
This is one of the most hidden viewpoints in the city, but it’s also one of the most pleasant. This is also due to the café inside, which serves snacks, drinks and coffees that take on a different flavor with the atmosphere of this place.

Monument to the Discoveries Viewpoint
At 50 meters high, on the terrace of the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, you have a panoramic view of the historic area of Belém, as well as the 25 de Abril Bridge and the south bank of the Tagus.

Monsanto Panoramic Viewpoint
The Monsanto Panoramic View point offers 306º views of Lisbon, and it’s nothing like the other viewpoints we’ve been to.
It’s a different style, there’s no terrace or café waiting for you. However, it looks like one of those movie sets!

Eduardo VII Park viewpoint from England
Parque Eduardo VII, just in front of the Marquês de Pombal, is one of those places where you can take it easy.
You can enjoy the immense garden, the café, the Estufa Fria and also have a view that crosses the valley of Avenida da Liberdade, the Baixa Pombalina, all the way to the Tagus!

Pilar 7 Experience
This is a recent viewpoint that invites the public to experience the 25 de Abril Bridge.
But don’t worry, it’s not just a viewpoint. From here you can actually have an experience that tells the story of one of the most famous bridges in the world, ending in this elevator that gives you access to an unprecedented view of Lisbon.

Torel Garden
Jardim do Torel was once part of an estate from the early 18th century, but it was in 1928 that the palace grounds became the property of the Lisbon City Council, which transformed it into a garden and viewpoint from where you can see the western part of the city.

Olaias Viewpoint
The Olaias Viewpoint is one of the most recent on this list, opening in January 2022.
It’s in Olaias and although the view isn’t as breathtaking as others, it offers a very open green landscape… and even has a community cattery.
