World Cup at the Hard Rock Cafe: the worst experience we’ve ever had

They say the Hard Rock Cafe Lisbon is one of the places to check out for watching big soccer games, including the 2026 World Cup. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of that expectation.
We were invited on Thursday to watch a game and sample some appetizers to share. Upon arrival, our reservation hadn’t been made —something that can happen, of course—so we were asked to wait a bit. After about 15 minutes, we were finally shown to our table and given the menus.
From there, the experience quickly deteriorated. We were approached in an unexpectedly brusque manner by the restaurant manager, and, without any adequate explanation, we ended up waiting more than 30 minutes without anyone attending to us. Given the lack of explanations and service that was not even remotely in line with what we expected, we had no choice but to leave.
We would have liked to share a different experience here —one befitting a brand with the recognition it typically enjoys— but we were not given that opportunity.
Fortunately, Lisbon is still full of restaurants and places to watch the game, where the hospitality lives up to the city’s reputation.
Schedule of the main Group Stage matches

This World Cup has reaffirmed a long-held truth: in Portugal, soccer is lived out on the streets. The impressive number of venues in the capital leaves no excuse for staying home alone to watch the national team’s games.
Choosing the ideal “stadium” depends solely on what you value most when the opening whistle blows: whether you’re looking for the raw, spine-tingling energy of thousands of voices in unison.
And you? Will you choose the analytical precision of a high-definition screen in a detail-oriented bar, or the familiar comfort of a perfectly poured imperial beer at the counter of a neighborhood tavern?
Whatever your choice, here’s the schedule of Portugal’s matches and a selection of the top matchups (featuring perennial title contenders like Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Spain, England, and the Netherlands), organized by day:
