Every year the same thing happens: the 25 de Abril bridge fills up with cars heading for some of the most beautiful beaches in our country. We’re talking about the 15 kilometers of sand on the Costa da Caparica, of course!
As the sun warms the beaches of Costa da Caparica, locals and tourists flock to its stunning beaches, each promising a unique getaway.
This coastal area, located in the municipality of Almada, is known for its long sandy beaches, bathed by the often cold waters of the Atlantic.
Costa da Caparica is one of the most popular destinations at this time of year (summer), not only for locals but also for tourists, as it is very close to the capital, almost 20 kilometers away, if we consider Praia da Cova do Vapor as the first on this coastline.
Today we decided to take a trip to the south shore to get to know each of the many beaches around Almada better.
The result is this list of the 10 best beaches on the Costa da Caparica, where you can spread out your towel and relax to the sound of the tides.
Table Of Contents

Fonte da Telha Beach
We’ll start with the last in Costa da Caparica’s line, Praia da Fonte da Telha, which is characterized by its long sandy beach and an imposing cliff that delights those looking for a beach to relax on after an intense working week.
EXTRA TIP: get there early so you don’t hit too much traffic. Enjoy the sunset. It’s beautiful!

Morena Beach
In Costa da Caparica, this is the favorite beach of young people, who usually spend the summer months here.
But when the tide is out, it’s a delight for families with children, who find it a great place for entertainment.
EXTRA TIP: Take advantage of the Borda d’Água terrace. It’s the best place to eat and drink while keeping your feet in the sand.

Riviera Beach
This is one of the first beaches on the Costa da Caparica, just after Praia da Mata.
It’s quite long and has a very nice beach support (Grão d’ Areia), where you can have a snack, an ice cream or a cold beer before your next swim.
EXTRA TIP: the parking lot, although “tight”, is one of the largest in the area, so it may not be too difficult to find a place. In any case, patience is advised.

CDS Beach
This is the beach on the Costa da Caparica that has all the safety conditions (with concessions, it’s guarded and has a Blue Flag) and is closest to the capital, and one of the first beaches on the coast to welcome surfers.
There are various versions of the name CDS: some say it comes from Centro Desportivo de Surf, others from Costa do Sol. Which version do you prefer?
EXTRA TIP: don’t miss the opportunity to admire the Serra da Arrábida , on the other side of the shore, from this beach.

Cova do Vapor Beach
This is the first beach on this coastline on the south bank, still with a small fishing village.
This is the place for those who want to make the most of the day, without having to walk along the coast looking for parking spaces.
EXTRA TIP: at Albatroz, you’ll still have time to try the freshly grilled sardines, some of the best on the Costa da Caparica.

Infante Beach
With fine white sand, Praia do Infante has one of the longest stretches of sand on the Costa da Caparica and is surrounded by several dunes, which you’ll want to keep to a minimum.
It ‘s usually less crowded than its neighbors Morena or Sereia.
EXTRA TIP: at the Casa Blanca Beach Lounge you can try the coolest drinks of the summer.

Mermaid Beach
Also known as Waikiki Beach, it has a good stretch of sand and is excellent for water sports.
EXTRA TIP: The popular Waikiki bar is worth a visit, if only to try one of its cocktails.

Fisherman’s Hut Beach
The sand at this beach is vast, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have more room to spread out your towel.
Praia da Cabana do Pescador is usually very crowded, especially for those who like to play sports, and is the meeting place for many beach volleyball enthusiasts, for example.
EXTRA TIP: Try the fresh fish at the Cabana do Pescador restaurant.

Nineteen Beach
You got it right. It’s called Dezanove because it’s the 19th stop on the Transpraia, the train that crosses almost the entire Costa da Caparica.
It has a long stretch of sand, over a kilometer long, and is very close to Praia da Fonte da Telha.
EXTRA TIP: this is the gay community‘s most popular beach.

Castelo Beach
Young people, children, surfers and bodyboarders are the main crowd you’ll see at the last beach on this list.
It’s one of Costa da Caparica’s best-known beaches and is named after the house you can see from the road, which resembles a castle.
EXTRA TIP: take the opportunity to have lunch at the beach restaurant, with fresh fish of the day.
