We’re not fans of going to the big shopping malls to do our Christmas shopping. That’s why we love the typical Christmas markets, both in the city and on the outskirts.
The new Christmas markets are in vogue and serve, above all, to help local businesses and small producers, be they of food products or handicrafts.
It goes without saying that we love this time of year, when many of the squares and streets in Greater Lisbon, from the capital to Sintra or Cascais, are filled with little stalls with all kinds of gift ideas for Christmas.

The city of Lisbon is home to most of the Christmas markets and fairs we usually visit at this time of year.
And these are just some of the ones you too can visit and do your Christmas shopping.
Rossio Christmas Market, in Baixa
The Rossio Christmas Market is returning to Praça Dom Pedro V (Rossio) from November 17th.
It will remain here until December 23rd, always full of entertainment for the whole family, as well as the traditional craft and food stalls of the season and, of course, the free Christmas train.
It’s worth going there because: there’s free travel on a Christmas Train that will run through the various streets of Baixa

Wonderland Lisboa, in Parque Eduardo VII
One of the city’s main Christmas markets returns this year to Parque Eduardo VII: Wonderland Lisboa.
Among the main novelties of this year’s Wonderland Lisboa, put a ride on the Ferris wheel and a tumble or two on the ice rink on your agenda (laughs).
And, of course, get ready to do all your Christmas shopping at the various stalls on display.
It’s worth going there because you’ll have the chance to ride the Ferris wheel and go ice skating.

Christmas Market in Alvalade
The Alvalade Christmas Market is one of the hottest in the city. Avenida da Igreja is due to host this event again in December, which will be your best chance to buy the best original Christmas presents.
Oh, and don’t forget to stop by the gastronomic stalls, where there will be no shortage of traditional Christmas sweets, as well as the delicious Óbidos ginjinha .
It’s also worth a visit because there’s a Santa Claus House that the little ones will love.

Christmas Market in Campo Pequeno
Campo Pequeno is once again hosting one of the capital’s oldest Christmas markets, now in its 12th edition.
Once again, it will also take place over two long weekends, ideal for those looking for original presents to give away this Christmas.
There will also be plenty of gastronomy with a gourmet area and lots of entertainment for the little ones.

Opening hours: from November 28 to December 1; and from December 5 to 8, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tickets: €2 per person (day), with the right to a €1 discount voucher for purchases of €10 or more; free for children up to and including the age of 12, as long as they are accompanied by a ticket-holding adult
Christmas at Grande Arraial do Lumiar
This is the first Christmas edition of the well-known Grande Arraial do Lumiar, which this time will be decorated with Christmas magic, so that all families can enjoy the various activities, from entertainment for the little ones, to extensive gastronomy and shopping for the older ones.
The site will therefore be divided into various fun and social areas, including a complete Christmas market, with lots of craft stalls for you to shop at.
There will also be a tree climbing trail disguised as the Enchanted Forest, and a playground full of balls for the children to enjoy.

Figueira Christmas Gourmet, in Praça da Figueira
Praça da Figueira will once again be filled with the best Christmas gastronomy, this time with the creations of nine renowned chefs, two of them master chocolatiers.
The Figueira Christmas Gourmet is now in its 12th edition, and this year many surprises and treats are expected for all families, in an event with free admission where food is the main course.

Santa Clara Christmas Market
From December 19 to 22, the Santa Clara market brings together talented makers and artists with a variety of unique and special gifts. At this market you’ll find everything from designer jewelry to handmade products and Christmas decorations, exclusive clothing and much more.
You can also take part in workshops designed for all ages, where you’ll learn how to create your own handicrafts, from personalized Christmas cards to educational games for children and even how to cook a vegan dish for Christmas Eve.
Also noteworthy are the Enchanted Forest, the snow cannon, inflatables and Santa’s house, as well as the children’s plays and comedy sessions at the São Vicente Comedy Club, which will take place on December 19 from 9:30pm to 11pm.

Christmas Market at the São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint
This year is the first time that Bairro Alto has seen its streets lit up with Christmas decorations, to promote visits to the neighborhood’s local and traditional shops.
There will also be a varied program between December 1 and January 6, with highlights including fado nights, live performances by saxophonist and cultural animator Ana Leite Faria and Rauly Reys, and the presence of Santa Claus next to the 11-meter mega Christmas tree that will be installed in the belvedere.
It should also be noted that on December 20, at 11am, there will be a concert by Avô Cantigas for the whole community, especially the children of the parish.

On the South Bank
Happy Almada
Christmas magic is once again happening in Almada’s Praça da Liberdade, from December 6 to 30, with the Feliz Almada Christmas event.
Tonight you can look forward to the countdown to the inauguration of the Christmas lights at 6.30pm, followed by a parade with Santa Claus and friends, who promise to make the party with lots of music and joy, as well as the opening of the Christmas markets.

Christmas Market at Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet
This charming street market, with its traditional wooden houses, will be open daily until December 24, offering a complete experience for those who want to eat, drink and find special gifts.
Visitors can indulge in a variety of gastronomic delicacies, from waffles and crepes to specialties such as raclette and aligot from French cuisine , or German schnitzel. To warm up body and soul, there are options such as cider, wine and hot chocolate.
For those looking for family activities, the market offers a variety of workshops. You can learn how to make origami, decorate the Christmas tree, create creative wrapping or try your hand at cookie recipes. On Sundays (December 8, 15 and 22), there is also story time to delight the little ones.

Christmas Kingdom
The Christmas Kingdom will return to Sintra for another season of fun and, of course, lots of Christmas shopping.
Parque da Liberdade, Terreiro Rainha D. Amélia and the NewsMuseum will be the main stages of this year’s edition, which will feature, as always, rides on the Christmas train, a videomapping show and other entertainment, as well as the traditional Christmas Market next to the National Palace of Sintra, which will have even more stalls.

In Cascais:
Christmas Market
As in previous editions, the Cascais Christmas Market returns with the best of gastronomy, traditional commerce and handicrafts, with more than 40 exhibitors.
There will also be the traditional Ferris wheel, a Christmas tree and a Venetian carousel.

Cascais Christmas Village
The Cascais Christmas Village will once again entertain all Cascais residents, with reindeer, elves, Roman soldiers, Magi and Santa Claus himself.
As far as the Christmas markets are concerned, you’ll find small stalls where you can buy Christmas presents not only in Cascais but also nearby.

Christmas at the Enchanted Palace
Oeiras is once again celebrating Christmas at the Palácio Enc antado ... with more days and surprises!
This year’s theme will be “Family Magic”, and the main attractions, such as the ice rink, inflatables, children’s train, carousel and snow cannon, will be joined this year by the Rádio Comercial Christmas Choir.

Óbidos Vila Natal
You don’t have to travel far to visit the biggest Christmas attractions in the country. There’s one that’s less than an hour from Lisbon, Óbidos Vila Natal.
The incredible event that takes place every year in the typical village of Óbidos, and which has enchanted everyone who passes through, will begin on December 6 and will continue until the beginning of January, already in 2025.

Vila Presépio
Vila Presépio is once again celebrating the Christmas season with fireworks, a train and a charity Christmas party.
Less than an hour from Lisbon is one of the most incredible Christmas events we know, especially known for its giant nativity scene, undoubtedly one of the largest in Portugal and certainly the largest around Lisbon.
