In Cais do Sodré, considered the second coolest neighborhood in the world, there are some of the most spectacular bars and restaurants in the city, nightclubs where you can end the night and a century-old market, all modern, but where you can still buy fresh fish and vegetables just picked from the garden.
With so much to choose from, it was hard to pick our favorite spots in this typical Lisbon neighborhood. Still, we managed to come up with this list, a sort of cream of the cream.
Feel free to agree, disagree or be curious, but one thing’s for sure: you’re sure to like at least one of them.
1 – La Puttana
Pizzerias don’t measure up! In this small space with only 24 seats (on tables) , great pizzas come out of the oven, both in size and taste.
If you like thin, crispy dough, good cheese and plenty of ingredients, you ‘re sure to join the club of fans of this place, which is completely open to the street on warmer days and has its windows closed during the winter.
As well as the classics, it also serves some more elaborate pizzas , the “Stravaganti”, with unexpected combinations.
The menu also includes pasta, salads, two calzones and a sweet pizza with Nutella and strawberries.
Address: Rua Nova do Carvalho 70
Hours: every day from 19h to 01h
2 – Pensão Amor
When you enter one of the various rooms in the renovated Pensão Amor, you get the feeling you’re in a museum, and the decor is certainly an invitation to the curious eye: lots of velvet, lamps, mirrors, pole dancing poles, colors and drawings on the walls make this a special place.
Before choosing a table, first explore all the rooms to decide where you’re going to sit.
The bar’s program is alternative: some days you can go in and catch a theater show, and the next, a concert, a burlesque show or, perhaps, a poetry reading.
Address: Rua do Alecrim 19
Hours: every day from 19h to 03h
3 – Bohémio da Ribeira
Right in the heart of Cais do Sodré, Bohémio da Ribeira offers good food and drink in an avant-garde atmosphere.
Put the house’s mastery of cocktails to the test. Bohemian life at its best!
Address: Travessa do Carvalho Carvalho 27A
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 12.30pm to 3pm and 7.30pm to midnight (Friday and Saturday closes at 2am)
4 – SOI – Asian Street Food
SOI – Asian Street Food has an Executive Lunch Menu that will take you on an incredible – and delicious – journey through the best cuisine in Asia.
The space is beautiful, the atmosphere transports you to the Asian continent, with the lights and, of course, the food, making you travel to other geographies.
Address: Rua da Moeda 1C
Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday, 12pm to 6pm and 7pm to 11pm; Friday to Saturday, 12pm to 6pm and 7pm to midnight
5 – Musicbox
This is our favorite surprise box in Cais do Sodré. This club, which has been open since the end of 2016 on the famous Rua Cor de Rosa , combines the best of a bar, a nightclub and a concert hall and makes you listen to hip-hop or African music, as well as rock, punk, electronica or other more experimental sounds.
That’s also why Musicbox mixes various tribes in the same space, proving that, after all, music can bring everyone and everything together.
The venue, which was once occupied by Texas, has the signature of the cultural company CTL – Cultural Trend Lisbon, which likes to spoil us with some of the most interesting festivals in the city, such as MIL – Lisbon International Music Network, or Silêncio.
And yes, there’s one more good thing: while most of the bars in the area close at 2am or 4am, Musicbox is there until 6am. Long (and good) nights at this club.
Address: Rua nova do carvalho 24
Hours: every day from 23h to 06h
6 – Casa Graviola
Casa Graviola is a hit in Brazil and has been in Lisbon since October, offering traditional healthy food with Brazilian roots.
The house offers a variety of culinary options, including protein-based dishes such as chicken, tuna and salmon, as well as vegan options, salads, pizzas, burgers, bowls and smoothies.
For children, there is a special menu, Franguinho do Graviola, and for brunch lovers, a variety of incredible and Instagrammable options are available every day.
Address: Rua da Boavista 66
Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday, between 8.30 a.m. and 10 p.m.; and Friday to Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
7 – Guacamole – Gourmet Mexican Grill
Guacamole is located in one of the trendiest places in Lisbon, in the 8 Building.
And what you eat here is the usual recipe: burritos, tacos, totopos, tortilla chips, salads and much more, in a space with a lot of charm, including a terrace and a store with Mexican products.
To drink, you have to try one of the 12 types of tequila and the eight varieties of mezcal, and there is also a wide variety of cocktails based on these drinks, such as the Ponderosa, La Pantera Rosa or the Cumberita.
Address: Rua da Moeda 2
Opening hours: every day from 11 a.m. to midnight; Fridays and Saturdays from midnight to 2 a.m., but only for drinks and starters.
8 – Triângulo da Ribeira
Going to Cais do Sodré and not eating a bifana from Triângulo da Ribeira is almost like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope.
Lisboners, tourists and even famous chefs have already ranked these bifanas among the best in Lisbon and we went there to find out why.
Address: Rua da Ribeira Nova, 48 (Cais do Sodré)
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed on Sunday
