The Rossio Christmas Market, one of Lisbon’s best-known Christmas markets, is back in downtown Lisbon from November 14 to December 21, with the highlights once again being Santa’s House, rides on the electric Christmas train and the doll exhibition.
More than just a Christmas market, Praça D. Pedro IV will become a vibrant meeting point from November 14 (Friday), transforming itself into a place where you can buy unique gifts, rediscover traditional commerce and, of course, indulge in all the best-known Christmas sweets, in what is expected to be another event for friends and family to share.
Dozens of stalls at the Rossio Christmas market
This year, Rossio will once again be filled with dozens of wooden houses, offering everything from handicrafts to typical sweets and original gift suggestions. The organizers guarantee that each edition brings something new, while maintaining the focus on authenticity and the connection to local commerce.
The stores in Baixa-Chiado are joining in the festivities, offering their own suggestions and, in some cases, extending their opening hours to make last-minute shopping easier.
The train, the stops and Santa Claus: all free

As is also the case every year, one of the highlights of this festival is the return of the Christmas Train, 100% electric and with totally free rides for everyone.
With decorations adapted to the season, this vehicle will once again travel through the streets of Baixa Pombalina, proving to be the perfect way for kids and adults to enjoy the city’s Christmas lights. The inaugural trip will take place on November 14 at 6pm
Christmas Train timetable:
- Sunday to Thursday, from 3pm to 10pm
- Fridays, Saturdays and national holiday from 3pm to 11pm
In addition to the train, there will be daily entertainment, with one of the most anticipated moments taking place every day at 5pm, with the Christmas Parade, which announces the arrival of Santa Claus on the grounds.
The cultural agenda and much more
The festival officially kicks off with the energy of the Original Band Bandalheira and the presence of singer Micaela, on a day that will also be marked by the first big Christmas Parade, which will feature circus artists and magical characters accompanying Santa Claus.
Throughout the 38 days of the event, music will be a constant, with a program that includes artists such as Sérgio Rossi, Sónia Costa, Miguel Azevedo, Karina, Romana, Belito and the Chave D’Ouro group. Portuguese tradition also takes to the stage, with performances by choirs, folk groups, philharmonic bands and concertinas.
As tradition dictates, Santa’s House will be set up in the market, ready to welcome the little ones for photographic encounters and moments of pure magic.
The renowned Hospital de Bonecas Christmas Exhibition also returns . This exhibition, of incalculable heritage and emotional value, brings together a remarkable collection with over 190 years of history, delighting collectors and families year after year.
