If there are things Artificial Intelligence was created for, this kind of calculation is one of them: we’ve calculated how many days off you can take in 2027 by making the most of the number of vacation days you’re entitled to (22 days). We’ll tell you right now— you’re going to love the answer!
We were already able to do something like this last year, and in 2027 the opportunities for time off are, once again, excellent—especially when we combine vacation days with national holidays and long weekends.
Make the most of 2027

If you’re anything like us, as soon as summer ends, we quickly start thinking about the following year, right? No matter what kind of vacation you like to take, there’s one thing we all look for: having as much time as possible to “unplug,” relax , and spend more time with family and friends.
Before we continue, an important note: this plan allocates only 13 vacation days throughout the entire year of 2027, leaving you with 9 more to take whenever you want.
It’s also worth noting that when we talk about days off, we always include weekends; and when we talk about vacation days, we’re referring to the standard 22 days to which every employee is entitled.
January
New Year’s Day (January 1, Friday): 0 vacation days = 3 days off (Friday through Sunday)
February
Carnival (February 9, Tuesday): 2 vacation days (the 5th + the 8th) = 5 days off (Friday through Tuesday)

March
Easter (Good Friday on March 26 and Easter Sunday on March 28): 1 vacation day (March 29) = 4 days off (Friday through Monday)
May
Corpus Christi (May 27, Thursday): 1 vacation day (May 28) = 4 days off (Thursday through Sunday)
June
Portugal Day (June 10, Thursday): 1 vacation day (June 11) = 4 days off (Thursday through Sunday)

October
Establishment of the Republic (October 5, Tuesday): 1 vacation day (October 4) = 4 days off (Saturday through Tuesday)
November
All Saints’ Day (November 1, Monday): 0 vacation days = 3 days off (Saturday through Monday)
December
Restoration of Independence Day (December 1, Wednesday): 2 vacation days (November 29 and 30) = 6 days off (Saturday through Wednesday)
Immaculate Conception (December 8, Wednesday): 2 vacation days (December 6 and 7) = 4 days off (Sunday through Wednesday)
Christmas and New Year’s (December 25 and January 1, 2028): 3 vacation days (the 27th, 28th, and 31st) = 9 days off (from Friday the 24th to Sunday, January 2)
By strategically taking these 13 days off, you’ll be able to enjoy 10 extended breaks, totaling 46 days off throughout the entire year of 2027, making the most of all the holidays, weekends, and long weekends.
We’re only considering the calendar of national holidays in Portugal (we’re counting Carnival as a holiday, although whether or not companies grant the day off depends on the individual company).
List of national holidays for 2027

2027 will treat you to 9 holidays falling on weekdays—10 if you count Carnival. Here’s the complete list:
- New Year’s Day: January 1, Friday
- Good Friday: March 26, Friday
- Easter Sunday: March 28, Sunday
- Freedom Day: April 25, Sunday
- Labor Day: May 1, Saturday
- Corpus Christi: May 27, Thursday
- Portugal Day: June 10, Thursday
- Assumption of the Virgin Mary: August 15, Sunday
- Establishment of the Republic: October 5, Tuesday
- All Saints’ Day: November 1, Monday
- Restoration of Independence: December 1, Wednesday
- Feast of the Immaculate Conception: December 8, Wednesday
- Christmas: December 25, Saturday
It’s worth noting that 2027 is less generous than 2026 in two ways: Freedom Day (April 25) falls on a Sunday, and Labor Day (May 1) falls on a Saturday, so neither of these creates an extra long weekend.
