Will Lisbon’s new mega-festival last 52 days? You read that right; it’s set to be the longest the city has ever hosted, with nearly two months of festivities combining the Santos Populares with the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11.
In addition, at the Terrapleno de Santos venue, which will become the capital’s main gathering spot, you’ll also be able to enjoy several free concerts featuring dozens of popular artists —all with free admission.
2026 World Cup, sardines, and free concerts

This year, the usual frenzy of Lisbon’s Santos Populares intersects with the euphoria of the 2026 World Cup, so the calendar promises to be very intense and full of surprises.
That’s why the Santos festival grounds in Santos couldn’t be a better choice for anyone who doesn’t want to choose between watching a national team game and eating a sardine sandwich.
From May 29 to July 19, access to the Terrapleno de Santos will be fully open so you can enjoy a festival featuring several highlights, combining the June festivals and soccer with various free concerts.
The concept behind the venue is basic and very simple: to recreate the spirit of an authentic riverside festival, but with infrastructure set up to host World Cup broadcasts.
Soccer on the screen, grilled sardines
The venue will feature a traditional food court, where there will be no shortage of bifanas, grilled sardines, and beer, as well as giant screens strategically placed so you won’t miss a minute of the matches. The highlight will be the broadcasts of the Portuguese national team’s games, though the venue is also set up to welcome the various foreign communities living in the capital who are looking for a place to follow their own national teams.
According to Paulo Silva, founder of New Sheet and organizer of this event,
