Candlelight Concerts
There’s no more romantic setting than a room lit only by a sea of candles. Even more so when the accompanying music is timeless hymns of love.
To talk about plans for a first date is to talk about Candlelight concerts, with an atmosphere full of magic and intimacy.
Address, schedule and tickets: at Fever
Monsanto Forest Park
Although it’s not exactly in the city center, I think it’s worth a trip to Monsanto Forest Park, even for a first date. After all, with around 900 hectares, this is Lisbon’s ‘green lung’ in its own right.
There, you can surprise your date with impressive trails and views, or enjoy an unforgettable picnic for two.
Address: Estrada do Barcal, Monte das Perdizes, 1500-068 Lisboa
Monte Agudo Viewpoint
Any of Lisbon’s viewpoints is a good option for a romantic date.
The view of the city helps create the right atmosphere for a more intimate conversation and, if you’re lucky enough to catch the sunset, the chances of love appearing are even greater.
Monte Agudo, being one of the most secluded viewpoints and also having a terrace, is our first choice for a dream first date.
Address: Rua Heliodoro Salgado 83 (Penha de França)
Torel Garden
This is one of our favorite gardens and the ideal place to enjoy a breathtaking view of the western part of Lisbon, the Avenida da Liberdade valley and the São Roque hill, which houses the São Pedro de Alcântara garden.
It has several garden benches and a café with a terrace (during part of the year), so there are several places where you can sit and talk to your (future) soul mate on a first date.
Address: Rua Júlio de Andrade (Campo Mártires da Pátria)
Amália Rodrigues Garden
Inaugurated in 1996 under the name Alto do Parque, it was renamed in 2000 to honor the famous Portuguese fado singer.
Located next to the belvedere in Parque Eduardo VII, it offers the same views as the latter, but on a slightly higher level and in the shape of an amphitheater with grass and benches.
The garden also has a circular lake, known by the name of the Linha d’Água terrace, and a statue by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero, entitled “Maternity”.
Address: Alameda Cardeal Cerejeira (São Sebastião)
Gulbenkian Gardens
We don’t know if it’s the lake, the impeccable architecture of the Foundation’s buildings or the friendly ducks that populate the space, but the truth is that the Gulbenkian Gardens have a mystical atmosphere where the urge to date comes naturally. Hence our suggestion for the ideal first date.
Whether it’s on the grass, on the café terrace or in the imposing open-air amphitheatre, all that matters is romance!
Address: Avenida de Berna 45 (Avenidas Novas)
Parque das Nações
The many terraces in Parque das Nações offer incredible views of the Tagus and there’s little as inviting as looking at the river from the front.
Riding the cable car is also a good plan and is sure to surprise anyone on a first date in Lisbon.
Cacilhas
In an instant, you have a completely different view of the Tagus River and the tranquil feeling of a small village.
We’re close, but it feels like we’re far away: we’re in Cacilhas!
From Cais do Sodré it’s just a 10-minute boat ride to the south bank, and it’s a pleasant crossing that will make for some great photos.
Estufa Fria
Estufa Fria is one of the quietest and most pleasant places in Lisbon, full of small lakes and waterfalls, hidden caves, statues and plants that don’t need heating (hence the name Estufa Fria).
This oasis in the middle of the city is home to species of all sizes and origins, such as China, Australia, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, the West Indies and the Korean Peninsula.
It’s a city oasis, the perfect place to date right in the city center.
Address: Parque Eduardo VII
Ribeira das Naus
We believe that the Tagus continues to be the magic formula for the most passionate scenarios.
That’s why a stroll along the Ribeira das Naus, with the historic part of the city on one side and the river on the other, is the right choice.
If you prefer, you can stop and stretch out on the grass, enjoying the scenery… and the company!
Address: Avenida Ribeira das Naus
