The good weather in Lisbon invites you to take your lunch in a basket and spread out your towel in one of the many parks and gardens around the city. These are our favorite picnic spots in Lisbon.
Among the spots to take the kids, romantic corners and places to go on an excursion (with grills and everything) there’s plenty to choose from.
Table Of Contents
Amália Rodrigues Garden
The Amália Rodrigues Garden, in Parque Eduardo VII, offers a huge green space in the shape of an amphitheater and is fortunate enough to be located facing the city of Lisbon.
As such, this is one of the picnic spots in Lisbon where you can count on an unobstructed view that is sure to give you a good time with your family or friends.
Address: Alameda Cardeal Cerejeira (Parque Eduardo VII)
Monsanto Forest Park
With over 900 hectares of green space, there ‘s no shortage of good picnic spots in Lisbon’ s Monsanto Forest Park.
Among so many options, you can even choose a spot according to your circumstances. For example, if the idea is to take the kids, the Serafina and Alvito playgrounds are always a hit, but be prepared for a race for the best tables.
For a romantic date, the views from Alameda Keil do Amaral promise to help the mood, but there are days when the best square meters are also hotly contested.
For those who like to socialize, Parque da Pedra and Cruz das Oliveiras even have grills and tables available.
Address: Monsanto Forest Park
Estrela Garden
Right in the center of the city, it’s one of those places that promises to please everyone: the kids, because of the playground, those who like to spread out their towels on the lawn, and the others, who never find a position and prefer to eat sitting on a bench.
Then there’s the charming atmosphere and the shade of the centuries-old trees, not to mention the Estrela Basilica across the road.
Oh, and for those who always forget something (cutlery, napkins, juice…) there are also some supermarkets nearby that always come in handy.
Address: Praça da Estrela 12
April 9th Garden
This garden is known by two other names: Jardim das Albertas or Jardim da Rocha de Conde de Óbidos.
It is located at the top of Rua das Janelas Verdes, in Santos, right next to the National Museum of Ancient Art.
It’s small, but very cozy and with plenty of shade to spend an afternoon looking out over the Tagus.
If you pass by and decide to grab a bite to eat while you relax, nearby is the Geographia, where you can enjoy a range of delicacies from all over the world.
Address: Rua Presidente Arriaga (Santos)
Quinta das Conchas
On the edge of the city, the 24 hectares of Quinta das Conchas have plenty of space for those who like picnics (full of noise and even music, if necessary) and for those who prefer a quieter corner.
The children’s playground, with one of the most fun slides in the city, also usually convinces the kids.
And from June 27, you can also enjoy free open-air movie screenings. See all the movies in our article.
Address: Alameda das Linhas de Torres; Rua Ladislau Patrício
Cerca da Graça Garden
As it is one of Lisbon’s newest gardens, it is not yet known by everyone, including some locals who have been all over the city.
If that’s the case, prepare a picnic in this nook between Graça, the Castle and Mouraria, because you’ll be surprised.
Corner, as they say, because it still has two very pleasant hectares, with lawns, viewpoints and, of course, a picnic area.
Address: Calçada do Monte 46 (Graça)
José Gomes Ferreira Park
Better known as Mata de Alvalade, it covers around 10 hectares with brick barbecue areas, a children’s playground and plenty of trails and footpaths to help you digest.
The entrance is on Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho (near the Rotunda do Relógio).
Address: Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho (Alvalade)
Eduardo VII Park
It’s not every place in the city where you can go for a picnic in Lisbon… by metro. In fact, there couldn’t be a more central area.
Would you like two or three suggestions for spots? For example, the children’s playground has several tables and a nice lawn, and nearby (next to the kiosk) there’s also an area with lots of trees and shade.
On the other side, next to the Carlos Lopes Pavilion, you’ll find some tables and clearings that invite you to spread out your towel.
Address: Parque Eduardo VII
Tapada da Ajuda
You may know Tapada da Ajuda from the Electronik Brunch of yesteryear, but this green area is also good for other , quieter Lisbon picnics.
In its 100 hectares there are plenty of good areas to spread out your towel and there are even areas suitable for picnics and barbecues.
If you go there, don’t miss the chance to visit the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory and, of course, the viewpoint at the highest point of the Tapada, with panoramic views of the Tagus and the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Santana Mills Park
It’s not exactly unknown to Lisbon residents, but perhaps few people know that in the Parque dos Moinhos de Santana, in Restelo , there are two very nice picnic areas.
Yes, we’re talking about the one next to the children’s playground, but also the more hidden tables upstairs, a stone’s throw from the windmill.
Those who prefer the lawn also have plenty to choose from (the views from the top are incredible) and there’s also a pleasant café with a terrace.
Address: Rua Tristão Vaz 22 (Restelo)
Campo Grande Garden
When we talk about picnic spots in Lisbon, we think of baskets, square towels and homemade food.
But the fast food restaurant in this officially called Mário Soares, also invites many to order takeaway and have an impromptu picnic on the grass.
Cheating aside, there are plenty of green spaces and there’s even a picnic area next to the children’s playground.
A trip to the lake, where you can digest on the rowing boats,is almost obligatory.
Address: Campo Grande
Tejo Park
Located in the northern part of Parque das Nações, it occupies more than 80 hectares of gardens and lawns next to the Tagus.
It’s a green and peaceful space that invites you to go for walks, sports activities and family picnics.
