Whether it’s sunny or rainy, strolling through these parks in Lisbon is always one of the best things you can do in the city, at any time of the day – you just have to be willing to breathe in the fresh air you’ll find here.
When it comes to immersing yourself in nature, going to one of these parks in Lisbon can be the ideal way to relax from an intense day at work.
There are many playgrounds in the city, with spaces where the little ones can have fun and burn off some energy, places that all Lisbon parents are grateful for.
But because adults also like to stroll around these kinds of green spaces, the real lungs of cities, we’ve created a list of our favorite parks in Lisbon.
Table Of Contents
Eduardo VII Park
The first is one of the largest, with 26 hectares, and most spectacular parks in the city, Parque Eduardo VII, where you can do many things.
It’s located at the top of Avenida da Liberdade, right in the center of Lisbon, and has one of the best panoramic views of the city.
It’s one of Lisbon’s most popular parks for strolling, with well-kept gardens, fountains, sculptures, a children’s playground, a picnic area, kiosks, restaurants, sports facilities and fitness equipment.
This is also where the Book Fair is held every year and, at Christmas, Wonderland Lisboa.
A bit of history
Originally named Parque da Liberdade, it was renamed after the King of England, Edward VII, when he visited Lisbon in 1903.
But it wasn’t until 1942 that the architect Keil do Amaral designed it as we know it today, with a large central axis of lawn decorated by a geometric composition of boxwood hedges, flanked by two large avenues of trees with two sidewalks lined with classic Portuguese sidewalk.
Parque Eduardo VII is home to two large facilities: the Estufa Fria, which is incredible; and the Carlos Lopes Pavilion, where musical events are usually held, among others.
Address: at the top of Avenida da Liberdade, next to the Marquês de Pombal traffic circle
Opening hours: always open
Parque das Nações
Parque das Nações is one of Lisbon’s most modern parks, located in the east of Lisbon on the banks of the River Tagus.
Once here, you can visit and explore the Lisbon Oceanarium, one of the largest oceanariums in Europe and where you can see various species of marine animals, including sharks, rays and octopuses.
Another of this park’s attractions, as well as having several green areas and extremely beautiful gardens, is the popular Pavilhão do Conhecimento, which is an interactive museum about science and technology.
As we’ve already mentioned, in Parque das Nações you’ll also find plenty of areas where you can relax and stroll around the gardens (you’ll love the Garcia d’Orta plots) and along the banks of the River Tagus.
When was it conceived?
Parque das Nações was created for Expo’98 and today is home to several tourist attractions, such as the Lisbon Oceanarium, the Knowledge Pavilion, the Camões Theatre, the Cable Car, the Altice Arena, the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center and the Vasco da Gama Tower, which is one of the tallest buildings in the city.
Address: eastern Lisbon
Opening hours: always open
Parque Tejo
Parque Tejo is actually part of Parque das Nações, but as it is so large and has so many points of interest, we think it deserves its own spotlight.
Especially now that it is receiving a major national investment to host World Youth Day, with the presence of his holiness, Pope Francis, who will be in this part of the capital from August 1 to 6, 2023 .
At Parque Tejo, you can stroll around the green areas, walk or run on the walking track, and you can also practice various sports such as skateboarding (with the skate park), cycling (with the Pump Track), soccer and paddle tennis .
Here you’ll also find some playgrounds for children and a long stretch of coastline along the River Tagus.
The differences with Parque das Nações
Parque Tejo is even further to the east of Lisbon, already bordering the municipality of Loures, and the parishes of Moscavide, Sacavém and the union of parishes of Santa Iria da Azoia, São João da Talha and Bobadela, some of which are bordered by the famous river Trancão.
This park in Lisbon covers around 90 hectares and is the largest green area in Parque das Nações and one of the richest in biodiversity, with a vast natural space that is a privileged place for observing the fauna of the Tagus estuary.
Parque Tejo is therefore a space with an immense green area that invites you to take long walks with friends and family, and one of our favorite places to contemplate nature at its best.

Bela Vista Park
You may know Parque da Bela Vista for hosting one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Rock in Rio.
Every two years, thousands of people gather here to watch their favorite musical artists for two weekends of pure fun.
This park in Lisbon is undoubtedly one of the most incredible to host this type of event, as its natural amphitheater format allows everyone to have an excellent view of the main stage.
What was it before?
Parque da Bela Vista is one of Lisbon’s largest parks, having once been an old farm that today still retains its more or less rural look.
Here you can find various specimens of fauna and flora, mainly Portuguese, as well as a wide variety of birds.
When the season allows, you can see a huge green area, with wooded areas of meadow and lawn, cut out by a network of paths where you can walk, run or cycle.
In the higher parts, there are also authentic view points that offer a wide view over the city and the River Tagus.

Quinta das Conchas and Lilacs Park
Commonly known as Quinta das Conchas, this is one of Lisbon’s oldest parks, where you can stroll and relax in three different areas: the Nave Central da Quinta das Conchas, the Mata and the Quinta dos Lilases, covering a total of 24.6 hectares of land.
The Central Nave is the largest area, with vast lawns and unobstructed views, making it the perfect place for small ball games with the little ones and, of course, picnics with the whole family.
This is where you’ll find some of the most popular recreational facilities, such as the children’s playground, the café, the restaurant with terrace, the stage for shows, the support building with reception and exhibition area, and the support tables.
For pure nature lovers… and for lovers in love
The other two areas of Parque das Conchas are dedicated to other interests. In the Mata you’ll find a denser forest area, with some of the nature still intact.
If you’re a lover of fauna and flora, you’ll find several species in this part of the park : ZelKova Serrata, Himalayan cedars, Buçaco cedars, adernos, sanguinhos, sabugueiros and pilriteiros.
At Quinta dos Lilases, which is separate from Quinta das Conchas, you’ll find a quieter place, where an artificial lake does the honors of the house, with its romantic features representing the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.
Nature lovers will also find something of interest here.
Address: Alameda das Linhas de Torres
Hours: 06h45 to 00h
Oriente Riverside Park
The Parque Ribeirinho do Oriente is one of the newest spaces for nature lovers in the city, having opened in the first months of 2021.
It has even been nominated for an international award, because it really is very beautiful and is also located in a privileged area facing the Tagus.
This Lisbon park is right there in Marvila, next to the new Prata Riverside Village developments.
A park that will “evolve” further
At the time of publication of this article, the Parque Ribeirinho do Oriente has a total area of four hectares, between Braço de Prata and Doca do Poço do Bispo.
However, we know that a second phase is being prepared that will increase its total extension, up to the Parque das Nações Marina, to eight hectares and almost 1.5 kilometers.
For now, you can find more than 350 trees, two footpaths, a cycle path, a complete children’s playground and various entertainment modules for the little ones along its current length.
It will also have support infrastructures, created from old containers, such as cafeterias (about to open), a bike rental store, a library and the appropriate sanitary facilities.

Monsanto Forest Park
There are a few reasons why you should visit one of Lisbon’s biggest lungs, Monsanto Forest Park.
This natural park in Lisbon stretches over several hectares and is one of Lisbon’s most beloved places as the weekend approaches.
Here you’ll find several hiking trails, picnic areas and incredible panoramic views over the city.
The park is also known for its variety of fauna and flora, with various species of trees, shrubs and wildlife.
As it is very well equipped with fitness equipment, the Monsanto Forest Park is one of the best options for those who want to walk, run or cycle and, at the same time, explore nature and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere outside the city.
A certified park
Among the many curiosities of this park, of which we invite you to learn more about the Panorâmico de Monsanto, you should also know that this vast park in Lisbon has a Forest Management Recertification from the Forest Stewardship Council®, the world’s most important certification in terms of the environmental compliance of forestry holdings, which means that the municipality is committed to maintaining the levels of quality and demand in Forest Management.
