Parking in Lisbon can be as complicated as playing Tetris. To succeed, you need strategy, patience and, above all, knowledge. What does this mean? The best way to avoid (even more) stress in traffic is to know where the parking lots are in Lisbon.
In a city that combines narrow streets, hills and a large influx of people (both residents and visitors), parking can be a real challenge. What’s more, Lisbon City Council has been trying to control the number of paid parking spaces and invest in alternative mobility solutions, with the aim of ‘relieving’ traffic.
Previously, in Lisboa Secreta, we published an article with some of the main free parking lots in the capital. However, this time we wanted to complement that information by including practical tips and paid alternatives. The latter are those concentrated closer to the city center. Shall we find out more?

Paid parking in Lisbon
While the free parking spaces are mainly found in peripheral or strategic areas, the same is not true of the paid areas. What does this mean? Well, the parking lots that aren’t free are usually in the city center and near points of interest.
To present a complete and definitive list would be too arduous and difficult, but we’ve decided to list a few locations and current rates. This way, you can choose more consciously which mobility options best suit you.

Saldanha (Atrium Saldanha)
This is a good option for short visits. It’s an underground parking lot located in the heart of Lisbon with 810 parking spaces, more than 200 of which are public.
It is open 24 hours a day and there you’ll find various facilities such as a car wash and electric charging stations (5-6).
Prices vary depending on whether you’re there during the day or at night, at around €2 per hour. On weekends and public holidays, the first two hours are free. More information here.
Marquês de Pombal Park
Right in the heart of Lisbon, this park in Praça Marquês de Pombal is managed by Telpark. With a privileged location and capacity for 1081 vehicles, rates start at €2.55/hour.

Saba Alto do Parque Park
Not far from the previous location, you can find this space almost at the top of Parque Eduardo VII.
With prices starting at €2.30 per hour, this parking lot is open 24 hours a day, has surveillance and is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Where to park for free
If you thought there were no more spaces free of parking meters, at Lisboa Secreta we show you strategic places to park for free in the city.
We’ve identified at least five main areas – Parque das Nações, Santa Apolónia/Penha de França, Alcântara, Belém/Ajuda and Benfica – all close to public transport that makes it easy to get to the center.
Even so, you should arrive early and expect to do some walking, or use mobility solutions such as bicycles or scooters. These tips are especially useful for those who come to work from outside Lisbon and don’t want to spend a penny on parking.

Parking bollards and Navegante Passes
We’ve already talked about parking bollards, but because of their relevance to this topic, we decided to remind you. That is, in case you’re not already familiar with the service, they are spaces away from the center of Lisbon where you can park for free.
Currently, there are at least seven free car parks and approximately 1900 spaces reserved for those who use the Navegante pass.
For example, Colégio Militar (over 400), Ameixoeira (over 200) and Pontinha Sul (over 300), among other places. You can find out all the details in this article.
