There are only a few months left until the end of 2025 and, with the end of summer, the days, especially the weekends, seem to be getting shorter and shorter. Which led us to ask: when can I enjoy the next holidays in Portugal?
The answer, although not very encouraging, revealed that there are still five public holidays in our country, two of which fall on weekends and three on working days, which we’re happy about.
October will only have one holiday, October 5, Implantation of the Republic, which falls on a Sunday. The same will happen on November 1st, All Saints’ Day, which falls on a Saturday.
So that leaves the December holidays:
- December 1, Restoration of Independence, on a Monday
- December 8, Immaculate Conception Day, which also falls on a Monday
- December 25, Christmas, which this year falls on a Thursday

Ideas for enjoying these holidays
Although there are few national holidays that you can still enjoy until the end of 2025, each one offers different opportunities to rest, travel or enjoy your free time in a special way, for example:
On December 1st and 8th
You can take advantage of two long weekends or, if you take four days off (from December 2 to 5), you can enjoy nine days off between November 29 and December 7.
Whatever you choose, we suggest a short trip around the country or a family getaway, as Portugal has a lot to offer, especially at this time of year, when no one is thinking about Christmas shopping.

On December 25th
In the last week of 2025, you can also enjoy nine days off by requesting four vacation days (December 22, 23, 24 and 26), guaranteeing a week off from December 20 to 28.
This week you have two options:
- If you like the hustle and bustle of Christmas, stick to the city (or the country) and visit the main Christmas markets. They’re always beautiful and full of family spirit;
- If these days don’t mean much to you, take that trip out of the country (or even in the country), taking advantage of the low-cost flights that may be available at this time of year (we don’t guarantee it, but if you book now you may be lucky).

General tips for maximizing holidays
This article comes at just the right time for you to plan these holidays before it’s too late. So, whenever possible:
- take advantage of the bridges to enjoy more vacation days;
- search for national destinations;
- find the most delicious gastronomic routes;
- discover nature destinations;
- search for places with traditions and festivities associated with the holidays.
The remaining holidays are excellent opportunities to get to know the country and foreign countries better, but also to rest or celebrate traditions and cultures, creating new memories.
If you have the chance, grab it tooth and nail, because “getting to know” is one of the best things you can take away from this life.
