If there’s one thing that the locals can’t do without, it’s a religious breakfast at the traditional pastry shop, usually a toast trimmed with butter, accompanied by a galão or an abatanado. And, of course, coffee, which can never be missing, either at the beginning or at the end of the most important meal of the day.
But who says breakfasts have to be the same every day? No one, which is why we went looking for alternatives to the traditional breakfasts in Lisbon.
In these places in the city you can eat much more than just toast and coffee with milk.
Here you can enjoy pancakes, eggs benedict, avocado toast, natural juices and, of course, the always obligatory coffee to give you energy for the rest of the day.
Come with us on this gastronomic journey to the most important meal of the day.

STO Grocery
A STO Grocery reminds me of one of those small grocery stores that used to be everywhere, usually with almost all the essential products for everyday life.
But with a passion for national gastronomy, the owners of STO decided to elevate this space to the next level downtown Lisbon to something else, making it one of our favorites for breakfast.
We therefore highlight the various products you can consume right at the start of another working day, from croissants, various types of toast, scrambled eggs or eggs with sausage and, of course, the traditional morning drinks, such as juices, coffees, cappuccinos and half-milks.

The range of products on offer to start your day full of energy is incredible, with a more than complete breakfast including croissant, granola, eggs (scrambled, boiled, poached, fried or omelette), tea or coffee, orange juice or smoothie.

When Chef Vítor Sobral decided to open his Pão da Esquina stores, we knew good things were coming, which clearly included breakfasts.
Our most recent visit was to Pão da Esquina in Alvalade, which has brought many new features to these stores.
In this space in the Alvalade neighborhood you’ll find not only wonderful bread, but also a wide variety of products for your breakfast , including the Arrebita Menu, consisting of bread, croissant, butter, ham, cheese, orange juice and coffee or half a glass of milk, for €7.50.

Gleba
Bread is an obligatory part of any breakfast, right? And gleba bakery is one of our favorites. You can’t help but like the quality of the products that come out of this house.
And it was during our visit to the Gleba store in Cascais, we sampled some of their offerings, with a loaf of bread that it would be a crime not to include on this list.
If you prefer to eat breakfast at home, then our best suggestion is to opt for Gleba’s wide variety of breads.
