We already know that you’re also a fan of sports and physical activity, whether with friends and family or on your own, at the CrossFit box , at the gym, or simply at home; what matters is that you do it, because health is synonymous with a longer and happier life.
On Sunday, April 12, however, all roads lead to the waterfront, where you’ll find over 15 kilometers of car-free riverside promenade .
An outdoor gym

On this special day, which marks World Physical Activity Day, motorized vehicles give way to bicycles, roller skates, and running (or walking) shoes, in a now-traditional event that brings together residents from the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras, and Cascais for a day of exercise stretching from Alcântara to São Pedro do Estoril.
On this route, completely closed to car traffic between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., the road will transform into a free-entry sports venue , whether you’re an experienced athlete or someone looking for a different kind of Sunday morning with the family, with activities for everyone, from 8 to 80.
The goal is very clear: to combat a sedentary lifestyle and encourage regular physical activity, promoting a more active lifestyle for both body and mind.
The perfect reasons to get out of the house

As in previous years, along the 15 kilometers you’ll find dozens of local associations, gyms, and health partners organizing activities at various strategic points, for example:
- Algés (Burger King Garden)
- Caxias
- Paço de Arcos
- Praia da Torre (parking lot)
Be aware of traffic and parking restrictions

If you’re planning to drive in this area on April 12, you’d better find an alternative because Avenida Marginal will be closed to traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
In addition to the traffic ban, parking will also be restricted in several lots:
- Starting at 8 p.m. on April 11 (Saturday)
- Starting at 6:00 a.m. on April 12 (Sunday)
More than just marking a date on the calendar, this is the perfect excuse to get your bike out of the garage, try a new sport you’ve always been curious about, or simply take a long walk along the river.
As we’ve already mentioned, none of this involves any cost or prior registration; just show up in comfortable clothes, bring water , and be eager to give it a try.
