Christmas village on the slopes of Serra da Estrela

Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, Cabeça’s “Christmas Village” is a benchmark for winter tourist destinations in Portugal. Devoid of Ferris wheels and merry-go-rounds, here time seems to have ‘frozen’, maintaining its simple but truly beautiful essence.
Located in the heart of Serra da Estrela, in the municipality of Seia, the village stands out for its typical schist houses and narrow streets. With around a hundred inhabitants, Cabeça lives the Christmas season in a genuine and sustainable way. That’s why it attracts many visitors every year.
In addition to the village’s natural charm, the community invests time and effort in local Christmas decorations made from broom, vines, pine branches, corn stalks and other materials resulting from forest clearance and reuse.
In addition, one of the strong points is the preservation of its traditions, such as: Mass of the Rooster, a Christmas bonfire, a community oven and a small market selling regional products and handicrafts.
Despite being more than 300 kilometers from Lisbon, the “Christmas Village” of Cabeça is a worthwhile destination, especially for those who value authenticity and appreciate the bucolic beauty of mountain villages.

🗓️ Dates: From December 6 to January 1, 2026.
