Located about an hour’s drive from Lisbon, depending on traffic, Óbidos is a tourist destination to consider all year round. Considered one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Europe, at Christmas it gains even more charm and magic with the “Óbidos Vila Natal” event.
This year, the enchanting town opens the doors of its “Great Christmas Factory” – the theme chosen for 2025 – on November 28, and will continue until January 4, 2026. During this season, lights, wooden chalets, simulated snow and more promise to delight the whole family.

What are the highlights of “Óbidos Vila Natal”?

Over the years, the event has grown in size and fame. In fact, according to the “Idealista” news portal, the numbers are even surprising, attesting to the importance of the event.
In all, it is estimated that there are around 17,500 square meters dedicated to the Christmas initiative, with many recreational spaces and 2,400 square meters of “snow”.
On a scale almost worthy of a real theme park, “Óbidos Vila Natal” has several attractions capable of entertaining children and adults from start to finish, such as:
- Christmas Market – with craft stalls, ginginha and chocolate cups, traditional gifts, handmade toys and more
- Children’s theater, workshops, live music
- Virtual reality experiences
- Santa‘s office
- Parisian carousel
- Ice Rink – not included in the normal ticket
- Ice Ramp, among others.

If you’re thinking of entering this real Christmas fairytale, in an enchanted kingdom of Santa Claus and elves, then find out about the times available:
- Monday to Thursday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Friday to Sunday: 10am to 9pm
- December 24 and 31: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- December 25 and January 1: closed

Famous for its imposing medieval walls and for having one of the most impressive castles in Portugal, the town of Óbidos is transformed at Christmas to the point where it seems like a dream, so magical is its surroundings.

General tickets cost €10 for adults, while children aged 3 to 11 pay just €8. However, the “Óbidos Vila Natal” event also offers options for groups.
