The Portuguese cuisine is one of the best in the world, no one doubts that, or at least not our team. But it’s always a treat to travel through the flavors, don’t you agree? That’s why, this time, we propose an incursion to some of the best Japanese restaurants in Lisbon.
The list is not definitive, as there are many options. Therefore, rather than a sort of ‘ranking’, consider this article as a starting point for those looking for different gastronomic experiences. From intimate spaces to larger ones, there are suggestions for all tastes. Let’s go?
Table Of Contents
Kanazawa
To start, how about a ‘fine dining’ experience? With a Michelin star, and a 4.9 rating on Google (out of 260 reviews), Kanazawa is the ideal restaurant for those looking for an intimate experience.
This is perhaps one of the most exclusive Japanese restaurants in Lisbon, and is widely known for its approach to Kaiseki cuisine, one of the most exquisite in Japanese territory.
The kitchen is in charge of chef Paulo Morais, highlighting the freshness and quality of its products. The space serves lunches and dinners, but can also be transformed into a tea room.
What does this mean? Every Friday and Saturday, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., there is a snack menu ready to be served, which includes various typical sweets and teas.

Omakase RI
This is, without a doubt, one of the best Japanese restaurants in Lisbon… And it’s not us who say this, but those who know Japanese cuisine like no one else – the natives and/or their descendants.
More than once, in our free time, we’ve been accompanied by Japanese friends who recommend Omakase Ri. But what’s so special about it?
First of all, the space is small, so it offers an intimate and cozy atmosphere. In addition, we advise you to book in advance, as capacity is small compared to other places.
In this spot, the focus is on the quality of the product and the idea is that you let yourself be carried away by the hands of the chef. One of the highlights is the Omakase Menu (90€), which includes 15 tasting moments.
Address: Rua Garcia de Orta 71 C
JNcQUOI Asia
JNcQUOI Asia is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Lisbon, and is a real success story on social media, due to its decor and the giant dragon that dominates the main dining room.
However, the place is not only famous for its instagrammable look, but also for the quality of its food. Although it’s not strictly Japanese, we decided to include it on this list, as we love its sushi and not only that.
Address: Avenida da Liberdade 144
Soão – Asian Tavern
Paper lanterns and bird cages don’t fool you, Soão really is an Asian tavern. Once again, despite not being exclusively dedicated to Japanese cuisine, we decided to add it to this list. Or it wouldn’t be one of the best places to eat sushi.
However, the menu is extensive and includes many more options, so if you want you can always take the opportunity to experiment with other flavors. In addition, you can either eat at the counter for a more authentic experience, or opt for the tables for group meals.
Address: Avenida de Roma 100 (Alvalade)
Kabuki Lisboa
In Spain, Kabuki needs no introduction, as it is already an established brand. Here, the Lisbon version is also enjoying success, as it holds a Michelin star, a fact that reflects its quality.
Installed in the mythical Ritz Galleries (next to the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisboa), Kabuki stands out for the excellence of its dishes, where special attention is paid to the origin of the raw material.
A sophisticated space that extends over three floors, combining a contemporary atmosphere with haute cuisine. It is also characterized by its Mediterranean influences. Strange or delicious? You have to taste it to believe it.
Address: Rua Castilho 77 B
Have we whetted your appetite? Then go and try these and/or other Japanese restaurants. Until then, sayonara!
