The city of the ‘Seven Hills’ is a gastronomic destination par excellence with many restaurants to choose from and flavors from all over the world. But if what you really want to know is where to find delicious artisan bread, then you have to take a look at this brief itinerary dedicated to bakeries in Lisbon.
From spaces steeped in tradition to others where innovation dominates , the city’s pastry offer has seen something of a renaissance. The focus on slow fermentation and national products is constant and the result couldn’t be better.
São Roque Bakery
Famous among locals and much sought after by tourists, Padaria São Roque is a must for those looking for tradition and history. Founded in 1961, it is the oldest bakery in Lisbon still in operation and stands out for the charm and elegance of its interior.
When you enter the “Bread Cathedral”, it’s almost impossible not to notice the Art Nouveau features. There, we recommend the Broa de Coimbra, the great gastronomic star of the place, but it’s also worth trying the traditional breads, which are light and tasty.
Address: corner of Rua D. Pedro V 57 and Rua da Rosa 57 (Bairro Alto/Príncipe Real)
Bike Bakery
Don’t let the size fool you. Although it’s only 33 square meters, Bike Bakery is welcoming, but its real secret is literally ‘in the dough’.
After all, its fermentation process is slow and it can take between 24 and 72 hours for the products to be ready, which gives them a special texture and flavor.
Located in the heart of Bica, close to the famous elevator, at Lisboa Secreta we’ve already tried a few samples and were particularly fond of the cinnamon rolls and focaccia.
Address: Rua dos Cordoeiros 14 (Bica)
Gleba
Founded in 2016, Gleba has several stores throughout Lisbon and stands out for its commitment to natural, healthy and nutrient-rich products.
With the mission of combining innovation and technology with tradition, Gleba’s products are the result of national cereals and a slow fermentation process. Barbela wheat bread is one of their best-sellers.

Currently, doBeco has two spaces in Lisbon, each with a modern and welcoming atmosphere that invites you to take a break. It is also pet friendly.

ISCO – Bread and Wine
Located in the Alvalade area, ISCO – Pão e Vinho is already a benchmark for slow-fermented bread in Lisbon.
At ISCO,artisan bread and homemade pastries are the big stars. However, there is more ‘life’ than just the bakery, as brunches are also served here.
At night, the space turns into a small bistro with monthly menus and a wine list.
