Lisbon, the city of the ‘Seven Hills’, is often highlighted nationally and internationally for the most diverse reasons. This time, the Portuguese capital has won the distinction of Best Culinary Destination in Europe for the first time.
The prize was awarded by the World Culinary Awards, the ‘little brother’ of the World Travel Awards (known as the ‘Oscars of Tourism’). The award ceremony took place recently in Dubai, where Lisbon left behind cities such as Barcelona, Paris and Florence, among others.
It’s a great source of pride to see Lisbon’s identity and traditions awarded for the first time in this sector and how innovation combines with these gastronomic traditions,” said Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon, quoted in a press release.
The World Culinary Awards are celebrating their 5th edition this year and aim to distinguish the best in culinary culture at a global level, as well as encouraging gastronomic tourism. Lisbon, like the other winners, was chosen through a public vote.
