The name sounds like something out of a very popular 80s movie, and yes, this Blue Lagoon is also a real hidden treasure that can surprise even the most adventurous of nature walks in the Serra de Sintra.
If you’re looking for peace and quiet and just want to relax, we guarantee that here you’ll be able to contemplate nature like in few other places around the capital, and it stands out as one of the best examples of natural retreats you can enjoy in these parts.

And it’s only 40 minutes from Lisbon
Yes, all this, and much more, is less than an hour from the center of Lisbon. If you haven’t been to this “little corner” yet, imagine a setting where the green of the lush vegetation is reflected in the crystal-clear waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Tourists know little about this place, so you’ll still find plenty of tranquillity, adventure and breathtaking scenery, making it one of the best-kept “secrets” for lovers of outdoor activities .
Lago Azul is surrounded by several trails and dense forests, making it the perfect “hideaway” if you’re looking to escape the routine of everyday life.
Hiking there (or taking advantage of the mountain biking trails) is a plan that families and friends are sure to enjoy, both during the hottest and coldest days.
And the kids will love it too! Because there are lots of animals here: carp, turtles, ducks and even rare birds, animals that make this place ideal for close observation and contemplation.
However, although the water is clean and crystal clear, it is not the most suitable for bathing, so we recommend that you use the banks for picnics instead.
Access is fairly simple and there is even a parking area available, but we recommend following one of the many routes on foot or by bicycle, which can take you to other interesting points, such as the Mula River Dam or even the Mosqueiros Lagoon, which is also very beautiful and peaceful.
