Mobility in Greater Lisbon, especially on the Cascais Line, is preparing for a weekend of severe restrictions: on January 9 and 10 (Friday and Saturday), rail traffic between Cais do Sodré and Algés will be completely interrupted during the night.
The measure is due to the necessary inspection and completion of work for the final phase of construction of the new tunnel that will connect the future Santos station to the Cais do Sodré network, a critical step in the expansion of the Lisbon Metro Circular Line.
What’s going to change on your journeys

Constraints will begin as early as Friday night, affecting thousands of passengers who depend on the Cascais Line:
- Cais do Sodré – Cascais direction
- All trains from 10 p.m. on January 9th (and the following morning) will be suspended. Train travel on the Cascais Line only starts at Algés;
- Direction Cascais – Cais do Sodré
- The disruption starts earlier, from 9.30pm, with the trains obligatorily ending their journey at Algés.
Transport alternatives
This interruption provides for an alternative route on Carris buses with departures and arrivals between Cais do Sodré and Algés: departures at the dedicated CP stop in Cais do Sodré, at Praça Duque da Terceira, via 24 Julho/Avenida da Índia, with stops in Santos, Alcântara-Mar and Belém, with arrivals and departures in Algés at Largo da Estação.
The Carris routes that can be used to travel near CP stations are: 15E, 751, 714, 728, 727, 732, 201 (early morning network), and from Algés/Belém to the city center 723, 729, 750, 751, 727, 728.
All the alternative journeys can be expected to take considerably longer, given the traffic conditions.
