The most popular locations
There are several popular places to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Lisbon.
In this list, we’re going to list those where the most people will be gathered:
Terreiro do Paço/Praça do Comércio
Terreiro do Paço, or Praça do Comércio, is one of the most emblematic places in the city to watch the fireworks, which this year return to the city with a big music party.
This is one of the most central places in the city, making it one of the places of choice where many go to see this great festival of explosions of color, which this year will last 13 minutes.
Parque das Nações
Located on the eastern side of Lisbon, Parque das Nações is another popular place to watch the fireworks.
This area of the city has several green spaces and many open areas where people can gather to watch the traditional fireworks, “fired” from two barges on the Tagus River.
The fireworks display in Parque das Nações is expected to last the same amount of time as in Praça do Comércio, between 10 and 15 minutes.
Belém
The Belém area is another good place to watch the fireworks, but only what’s happening on the opposite bank of the River Tagus, as no fireworks are planned for this part of the city.
Even so, to watch in complete calm, the gardens of the Belém Tower seem to be the best place.
South bank of the Tagus
The south bank, in Cacilhas or Almada, are also some of the best places to watch the fireworks in Lisbon.
From this area, you can watch the fireworks from one side of the Tagus River or the other, which makes the whole experience even more different.
The highest places
Some people prefer to watch the fireworks in less crowded areas, where the party is quieter but just as spectacular.
In this case, we’re talking about the various viewpoints in Lisbon, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of this visual spectacle:
Miradouro da Graça
As its name suggests, this is one of Lisbon’s best-known viewpoints and is located in the Graça district.
It offers a panoramic view of the city, including São Jorge Castle and Terreiro do Paço.
It is undoubtedly an excellent place to watch the fireworks in the city center.
São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint
The Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is close to Lisbon’s Chiado and Bairro Alto districts.
As usual with viewpoints, it offers a panoramic view of the city, practically facing the Castle and downtown Lisbon.
Nossa Senhora do Monte Viewpoint
The Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte is one of our favorites and is also in the Graça district.
Here you’ll be able to see the fireworks in the city center, near the Tagus and even the fireworks launched on the south bank.
It’s undoubtedly one of the most incredible places to celebrate the New Year.
The terraces or rooftops
In addition to the well-known locations and viewpoints mentioned above, there are other high places in Lisbon from which you can have a panoramic view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks, such as building rooftops or hotel terraces.
It’s important to remember that rooftops and hotel terraces can be booked in advance, but you should always check if you’re planning on having a New Year’s Eve party.
