We decided to keep the name “croissants” as it is, because it sounds more chic, but we ended up creating versions for all tastes, in various sizes and even in the most unusual colors.
It’s really hard to say which ones are the best, but we accepted the challenge and chose a few places in Lisbon where they make the most delicious ones, the kind that make our mouths water just thinking about them.
You can agree, disagree, and give your opinion, but you really have to try them all. Enjoy!

The croissants from the historic Benard pastry shop are almost as famous as the statue of Fernando Pessoa outside.
A true Chiado institution, they are always fresh out of the oven and the hardest part is choosing between so many varieties.
Chocolate, egg jam, strawberry, and raspberry are some of the fillings available (always in industrial quantities), but there are also mixed fillings or fresh cheese, just to give a few examples.

Located in Belém for almost 75 years , it used to be called Pastelaria Restelo, but today it is better known as Pastelaria Careca.
Some people cross the city from one end to the other just for the croissants from this place (yes, we are among them) , and when you try them, you’ll understand why.
Sugary (very sugary!) and undercooked, they have been copied by other bakeries in the city, but no one can beat the originals.
In addition to croissants, this pastry shop (open since 1954) also sells some of the best palmiers and bolos-reis in Lisbon.
The Best Croissant on the Street

Every street in Lisbon should have a “Best Croissant on the Street” spot, a place known for its delicious crescent-shaped pastries, which has already opened in several locations in Greater Lisbon alone .
The various flavors and special and limited editions make this one of our favorite croissant shops.
How can you say “no” to a croissant with Nutella or one with cream cheese, pumpkin jam, and walnuts? Impossible, right?
For World Croissant Day, you can try two new editions: a new filling that will be a real challenge for croissant lovers, more balanced and enveloping, the Intense Praline (€3.90); and a second option for the more daring, almost like a second level of the daring game of flavors: the Explosive Truffle (€4.90).

With more than 40 stores in Spain, Manolo Bakes finally arrived in the Portuguese capital in May 2024, and is one of the most renowned bakeries in terms of innovation and quality.
I brought with me the famous “Manolitos,” which are nothing less than the most renowned mini-croissants in the Iberian Peninsula, with their sweet and savory flavors.
One of the highlights of these pastry shops is that you can take one of their boxes, choose the quantities and flavors you want , and go out to taste each one on the street.

Maria is considered by many to be the queen of French pastries in Portugal. One of the reasons for this, besides her delicious croissants, is that every month you can try a new filling.
To find out what this month’s flavor is, you can search the social media pages of this Lisbon croissant shop, which always manages to combine the most delicate flavors and aromas.
At Maria Croissant, you will always find groups of friends gathering to enjoy one of these delicacies , and even entire families who come here for a mid-afternoon snack… and on this day with a special 10% discount on all products.

This establishment opened in mid-March 2024, proving to be a pleasant and sweet surprise in downtown Lisbon.
Go for the vegan croissants, which combine the lightness of puff pastry with the softness of brioche, and around 20 different fillings, both sweet and savory.
Among the sweet options, we highlight the Salted Caramel, the Egg Jam version , the one with Nutella, or the one with White Chocolate and Hazelnut Cream, with prices ranging from €2.50 to €5.00.
To celebrate World Croissant Day, Chez Croissant has prepared a special offer for all lovers of this timeless classic: on this day, if you make a purchase of €2.80 or more , you will receive a €3 voucher, which can be used on the same day or within the following 15 days.
