Lisboners have a new reason to smile… and rest! Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado, now known as Praça de Sete Rios, is finally ready to welcome all citizens who want to relax in spacious surroundings.
After an ambitious urban redevelopment project, the huge space of more than 152,000m2 next to the Lisbon Zoo, now has..:
- passeios mais largos
- a cycle path
- uma estação de bicicletas partilhadas
- a playground for the little ones
- several green areas with around 200 trees
All this translates into a friendlier environment for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The huge space, which previously served mainly as a public transport terminal, is now more organized to give citizens more leisure space, and even has a system of recreational water games.
To this end, more bus lanes have been created , bus stops have been relocated and lanes have been narrowed so that traffic is less intense.
The work on the refurbished Praça de Sete Rios took two years to complete, with an investment of 8.5 million euros.
The whole project also includes a collector on Estrada das Laranjeiras, which is part of the Lisbon’s General Drainage Plan, which had an additional cost of 3.5 million euros.
Still on the subject of this “addition”, for the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas,
This is a very important invisible work. We experience floods every year, and once these works are finished, including this one, the other is the tunnel from Campolide to Santa Apolónia and the third is the tunnel from Chelas to Beato, we will no longer have these effects.”
