As soon as we entered the Rubro Avenida restaurant (Rua Rodrigues Sampaio 33-35), it was like “diving” into a sophisticated and, at the same time, very cozy atmosphere, in a place that we really appreciated for the passion that exists around tapas, premium meats and wines, many of them from Portuguese producers.
The décor of the space, which is huge and occupies two floors (one of which is only open on very special occasions, such as wine tastings or group or company dinners), mixes modern elements with industrial touches and wood accents, making this a very elegant and relaxed restaurant, perfect for a business lunch or even a romantic dinner (there are “corners” to suit all tastes).
The Secret Lisbon experience
Our gastronomic experience at the Rubro restaurant began with a selection of starters that we love to eat when we visit nuestros hermanos in Spain: a fresh and aromatic Gazpacho (€4.5), served in a small bowl ready to whet your appetite; followed by the Eggs Rotos with Ham (€13.5), with the yolks oozing over the delicious fries, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, immediately transporting us to the Spanish coast; we passed the spicy test with flying colors with the Pimentos de Padrón (7€), a classic that never disappoints; and finally our favourite Puntillitas (8.5€), the little squid fried with lemon that are a marvel (we’d eat these every day!).).
As a main course, and as always, we asked for the Chef’s suggestion: we were pleasantly surprised with a Chuletón de Buey Maturado (49.5€ for 2/3 people), served to perfection, juicy, tender and full of flavor, thanks to the maturation that intensifies every part of the meat.
Ideal for sharing, each forkful of this piece of meat attached to a bone, which promised to end this tasting on a high note, was taken with all the senses “at work”, so that our expressions of satisfaction were clearly visible (video coming soon).
The perfect ending came with the desserts. I opted for the Chocolate Cake (6€), which in my opinion was too dense and intensely chocolatey, perhaps too much so. Ringo, on the other hand, chose something lighter, the Passion Fruit Cheesecake (6€), which surprised with its contrast between sweet and sour, ending this meal at the Rubro restaurant with freshness and elegance.
Other experiences at Rubro
We accompanied our gastronomic experience with a good red wine from the producer, but we were told that the wine list would be something to explore in the future, as it is carefully selected and often promoted through themed tastings organized regularly at this restaurant (in the downstairs room), an excellent opportunity to discover new labels and pairings, guided by experts who share some curiosities and stories about the wines being tasted at these events.
In short, whether it’s for a group dinner, a special celebration or a more private meeting, or even a simple lunch or dinner, the Rubro restaurant offers different atmospheres, from private rooms to more intimate areas.
From the décor to the service, we liked everything, especially the matured beef that we got on the menu, which was incredibly delicious and well grilled. It will undoubtedly be one of our excuses to return to Rubro.
