Cheese is one of the oldest foods of all time, and there isn’t a Portuguese person who doesn’t like to eat it, whatever time of day it is. That’s why, once again, we’ve made a Herculean effort (we’re joking, it’s been with great pleasure… and gusto) to go in search of the best cheese shops in Lisbon.
In these places you’ll find not only our most traditional cheeses, such as our highly renowned Serra da Estrela, but also the always divine French cheeses, centuries-old Dutch cheeses, intense Italian cheeses and, of course, the no less famous “pieces of gluttony” from England and Spain.
Do you accept the challenge of entering these cheese shops in Lisbon?

Sorriso Alentejano
The Sorriso Alentejano cheese factory is a brand of 100% handmade products founded in 1994 that already has two locations in Greater Lisbon, one in Damaia and the other in Amadora.
One of its biggest innovations has been the launch of an online store, where you can not only order the brand’s delicious cheeses and a wide range of charcuterie, but also personalized baskets with an endless array of products, including honey, jams, wines and even codfish.
The prices of these baskets may vary depending on the products you choose, but there are some suggestions that start at €25 and go up to €100, which undoubtedly make a great Christmas present.
Address: Largo Alexandre Gusmão, Loja 13B (Damaia); Rua Pedro Franco Loja 2 (Amadora)
Maître Renard – Fromagerie
The owners of this cheese shop in Lisbon, Ulysse and Quentin, take great pride in the cheeses they offer to all their customers.
With cheeses from all over the world, it’s safe to say that their specialty is French cheeses.
However, don’t miss out on other “treats” hidden in this store, such as butters, French wines, artisanal mustards and even an excellent selection of French and Portuguese beers.
Address: Rua Ferreira Borges 30 (Campo de Ourique)
Manteigaria Silva
There’s no turning back here: it has some of the tastiest Serra da Estrela cheese we’ve ever tasted.
If it’s not your favorite, you can choose from a wide range of dry cheeses from various regions, buttery cheeses, cured cheeses from the store itself, and even fresh cheeses.
Did you know that this butter shop was considered one of the best grocery stores in the world by the Financial Times? Here’s the tip, just so you know you’re in good hands.
Address: Rua Dom Antão de Almada 1 (Rossio)
Queijaria
The name couldn’t be more direct! Queijaria was founded in August 2014, making it the first store in Portugal to specialize in high-quality Portuguese and international artisan cheeses.
Here you can find more than 60 varieties of artisan cheeses, always with the seal of quality of the best experts in the field, who have always used traditional methods to perfect the flavors of this food.
Address: Rua do Monte Olivete 40 (Príncipe Real)
Queijaria do Monte
After a first home in Estoril, Queijaria do Monte has opened a new space in Lisbon, in Alvalade, with an even wider range of cheeses on offer, always focusing on the more artisanal brands.
We haven’t visited it yet, but according to the website, it focuses on traditional products of Portuguese origin, but also French, Spanish and Italian, and there is also the possibility of trying vegan, paleo and organic alternatives.
