Carris has one of the most incredible historical museums in the country, with old buses that are a delight to visit and learn about their history, such as buses 837 and 851, which we have already mentioned here.
If you have never visited this museum in Alcântara, perhaps it can visit your neighborhood, in a new project by Carris that will take the company’s history to various locations in the capital.
“Carris Museum Outdoors”

The Carris Museum decided to reverse the logic and hit the road with a project full of activities, especially for the younger ones.
This initiative will take the iconic 4233 bus, now transformed into an incredible recreational and educational laboratory, directly to schools, squares, and neighborhoods in Lisbon, turning this action into a real museum on wheels.
The idea is very simple: if school groups/classes cannot come to the museum, the museum will go to them, thus eliminating the transportation and logistics barriers that some educational institutions may have.
A museum on wheels that creates memories

This bus is equipped with educational materials and is accompanied by a team of cultural mediators, making this vehicle a space for discovery where the history of Lisbon’s mobility intersects with creative workshops.
The “Outdoors” educational program is not limited to telling facts; through activities designed for different age groups, children are invited to interact with heritage:
- Magic Windows
- Transport for All
How can you receive “Outdoors”?
The “Museu da Carris Fora de Portas” project was designed to be flexible: the bus can park inside school grounds or in adjacent public areas (with prior authorization), ensuring a safe and innovative experience.
For interested schools and associations, scheduling is done directly with the Museum’s Educational Service, at an affordable cost of around €5.50 per student and free for teachers, providing a unique opportunity to enjoy a different kind of day without leaving the neighborhood.
