Baos or Baozi is a type of steamed bread that originated in China. Very fluffy and usually cut in half, as we do with our bifanas or pregos, you can find this delicacy in various oriental kitchens, with various types of presentations and fillings. But these are the baos in Lisbon that we like best!
The story goes that this nutritious food originated at the beginning of the Three Kingdoms Era and, according to legend, Zhuge Liang, a well-known military general, invented this meal to relieve his army from the pain of a plague.
Nowadays, you can find these hot rolls in several restaurants in Lisbon, but we’ve gone in search of the best and created a list so you can try them too.
Table Of Contents
Soul Garden
One of the last baos we tried in Lisbon was at Soul Garden, and we were fans straight away. In portions of three, stuffed with shrimp or lamb (which is what we tried), they are worth every penny (18€).
With a creaminess that immediately left us wanting more, these baos will be the right choice when deciding which restaurant to go to in order to try these delicacies.
