These are the last three books about Lisbon that caught our attention:
1 – New Lisbon
After his landlady decided to increase the rent on his apartment in Lapa by 500 euros, Alex Couto felt the gentrification that dominates headlines and footnotes every day.
He moved to another borough and decided to write a book about this new Lisbon reality, where the new next-door neighbors speak French and where avocado toast tries to dethrone bitoques .
The result is “Nova Lisboa”, a book that the author calls a “literary tourist guide” and which draws parallels between what was and what is now, always with a very pertinent caustic tone.
2 – Map for Crying in Lisbon
When you’re in Lisbon and all you want to do is cry, this is the book for you. Created by illustrator Joana Estrela, Map for Crying Travelers lists the ten best places in the city to whimper, cry or weep copiously.
The Oceanarium and the Gulbenkian Gardens are just some of the places on this poetic and dramatic itinerary .
3 – Lx Joga: Lisbon Like You’ve Never Seen It Before
After the books LX60, LX70 and LX80, author Joana Stichini Vilela has launched a new book on the history of Lisbon that focuses more broadly on the 20th century.
The idea is to approach stories within history, but in a dynamic and fun way, with games, collages, cut-outs and puzzles.
You can, for example, cut out and assemble the plane of Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral, cut out and play with the characters of Vasco Santana or Beatriz Costa (in the photo) or play “how many do you want” with the most popular television programs, while writing your own Anti-Dantas Manifesto.
