The famous chocolate brand Arcádia and the Porto City Council have joined forces to create a Porto-flavored cake , thus giving rise to a new sweet, the Pastel do Porto, which, we hear, wants to rival “our” Pastel de Nata.
Lisbon is very strong when it comes to food, having even won the award for Europe’s Best Culinary Destination, but it’s also true that Porto is on the right track as Europe’s Best Emerging Gastronomic Destination.
So creating a Porto-flavored cake makes perfect sense, but is it tastier than Pastel de Natal or Pastel de Belém? Well, tastes are not debatable, so let’s find out what ingredients this Pastel do Porto is made of.
What does Pastel do Porto taste like?
The aim of this action is for it to “taste” like Porto, to pay homage to the northern city, just as the famous Francesinhas and, of course, Tripas à Moda do Porto already do.
The manufacturer responsible for Invicta’s latest sweet, the chocolate maker Arcádia, in collaboration with Chef Sofia Santos da Cunha and the consultancy of Chef Francisco Gomes, has combined two of its most famous ingredients: crispy filo pastry and ovos-moles filling, as well as the world-famous Port wine.
Innovation and tradition are two constant elements in Arcádia’s products. It was therefore with great pride and enthusiasm that we received the challenge from Porto City Council to create a distinctive element linking the city to a sweet. The result is a tribute to Invicta, in a surprising pastry that reflects its flavors and essence, and which is now available for everyone to taste,” says the Arcádia Group’s general manager, Francisco Bastos.
For Chef Francisco Gomes,
It’s a pastry with an unexpected twist. A daring attempt to combine the sophistication of French haute perfumery with the simplicity of a pastry. Perhaps this pastry was part of a romantic date, helping to create the perfect atmosphere to win hearts. A touch of lavender? No. We opted instead for the subtle and unmistakable aroma of Port Wine. After all, even a pastry deserves its moment of luxury – a gesture that turns it into a memorable experience, a reminder that refinement is in the details. Because, after all, who said that only we can have a ‘smell of wealth’?”
If words were worth more than tasting, they would certainly delight anyone, so we’re very tempted to go to Porto to try the new Pastel do Porto.
Oh, wait, the latest sweet from Invicta is available in Arcádia stores from the north to the south of the country. So we’ve accepted the challenge, and as soon as we’ve tasted it we’ll tell you all about it here.
