You already know that we love pastéis de nata in Lisbon, right? Yes, we really do.
That’s why, since we know it’s one of your favorite pastries , and that of many other people around the world, we decided to create a route with our favorite places to eat pastéis de nata in Lisbon.
Table Of Contents
Manteigaria Lisboa
Our office is very close to the Manteigaria in Chiado, on Largo de Camões. That’s why we can almost hear the bell whenever a new batch of what is, in our humble opinion, one of the best pastéis de nata in Lisbon comes out .
Address: Rua do Loreto 2 (Chiado) | Time Out Market (Cais do Sodré) | Rua Augusta (Baixa) | Avenida Rio de Janeiro 44, B, C, D (Alvalade) | Rua de Belém 31 (Belém)
Pastéis de Belém
It’s very likely that you’ll find one of those queues at the door, but the truth is that, as well as being quick, it ‘ll be worth it in the end. After all, this is the most legendary place in the world to eat desserts.
This place has been delighting locals and tourists since 1837, thanks to an ancient (and secret) recipe from the nearby monastery.
Address: Rua de Belém 84-92 (Belém)
Alcôa Bakery
In Chiado there’s another bell where you’ll also hear the chime whenever warm pastries come out of the oven.
These are from Pastelaria Alcôa, the famous brand from Alcobaça that has one of the most divine pastries in the city, undoubtedly one of the conventual sweets from that town in the center of the country.
Address: Rua Garrett 37 (Chiado)
Fábrica da Nata
Fábrica da Nata is already a benchmark in the world of traditional Portuguese sweets, especially when it comes to pastéis de nata.
With a dedication to quality and tradition, the brand has stood out for its ability to innovate without losing the essence of what makes the pastel de nata an icon of Portuguese sweets.
Address: Praça dos Restauradores 62-68 (Baixa); Rua Augusta 275A (Baixa); Avenida Lusíada, Piso 2, Loja 091 (Centro Colombo)
Balcão do Marquês
But if you really want to eat the best pastel de nata of 2018, get in the car and you’ll have to go to Ajuda.
If you’ve been stranded by our Wall Street, leave the car badly parked and go and replenish your sugar and happiness levels with a pastelinho from Balcão do Marquês, where you can push it with a coffee and toast the resident of our traffic circle.
Address: Avenida Duque de Loulé 113-119 (Marquês de Pombal)
National Confectionery
If only to get to know the place, at Confeitaria Nacional you can also enjoy one of the creamiest custard tarts in town.
Address: Praça da Figueira 18B (Baixa/Rossio)
Pastelaria Aloma
If you’re in Campo de’Ourique and you’re hungry for sweets, the place to go is Pastelaria Aloma.
Here the pastries are like Alfama in the popular marches, they are always among the best and have won the award for Best Pastel de Nata in the country three times.
Address: Rua Francisco Metrass 67 (Campo de Ourique); Largo Calhariz 3 (Baixa/Rossio)
Né’s Bakery
The pastéis de nata from Padaria da Né, in Damaia, were the big winners of the 2021 competition, presenting the judges with the best appearance, consistency, touch of dough, filling and, of course, taste.
Address: Rua Carvalho Araújo 7A (Damaia)
Castro
The atelier specializing in making pastéis de nata, as it likes to call itself, brings to Lisbon (and also to Porto) Manteigaria’s formula for success, which is to allow all visitors to follow the entire process of making this wonderful Portuguese sweet.
It already has two stores in Lisbon, one in Chiado and the other in Baixa – which opened recently – and its pastéis de nata are superb, making it onto our list of the best (and into the top three favorites of the person writing these lines).
Address: Rua Garrett 38 (Chiado); Rua Áurea 254 (Baixa)
Natas do Carmo
One of the last pleasant surprises in our guide to the best pastéis de nata in Lisbon was Natas do Carmo, which although they don’t just serve this incredible sweet (they also serve brunches), they serve it in such a way that it deserves to be in this guide too.
Here, we even eat them by the spoonful, to get an even better taste of all the creamy filling before we get to the crunchiest part of the pastry.
Address: Travessa do Carmo 4 (Chiado)
Casa do Preto
In Sintra, it’s not just the travesseiros that are worth mentioning. If you want to eat one of the best pastéis de nata (custard tarts) in the most romantic town in the country, you really must try the crunchy ones at Casa do Preto.
Address: Estrada de Chão dos Meninos 40 (Sintra)
Pastelaria Nilo
Creamy and crunchy, just the way you want a good, delicious pastel de nata. At Pastelaria Nilo, in Benfica, that’s exactly what you’ll find, a “nata” to sweeten your mouth.
Address: Estrada de Benfica 715B (Benfica)
