First a warning: it’s not easy to find good francesinhas in Lisbon, period!
The sauce, the blessed sauce, is what makes the difference in this dish, which is ideal for days when you’re very hungry, gluttonous or hungover.
But with so much good food in Lisbon, why do you want what’s best in Porto?
Because it is! Because francesinha really is that meal that fills the belly and the soul. Sauce. Meat. Fat. Sustenance. Some days that’s all we need”
So we don’t mind going in search of a decent francesinha in our city.
If you, our dear reader, have another place to recommend, please help other francesinha thirsty people and leave us your tip in the comments of this post on Facebook or Instagram.
Table Of Contents
Camada
In the North, Camada (almost) needs no introduction, as it has several restaurants in different cities, such as Barcelos, Porto, Vila do Conde and Braga, among others.
However, its presence is not limited to this region of the country, as it already has spaces in the Algarve and, of course, Lisbon. As well as the restaurant in Benfica, the brand recently opened another in the heart of Lisbon.
So you can now eat Camada’s francesinhas near Praça de Saldanha. There, you can order a whole francesinha (€12.50) or just half (€9.80).
Address: Rua Tomás Ribeiro 60, next to Praça de Saldanha; Cine-Teatro Turim, Estr. de Benfica 723 A
Imperial de Ourique
At this place, we think the francesinha can be compared to those found in the north of the country. You can tell from the quality of the ingredients.
If you like your francesinha spicier, you’d better order it straight away. The space here is small and crowded, after all, these francesinhas are already famous. So it’s best to book a table before you go.
Address: Rua Santo António à Estrela 106A (Lapa/Estrela)
Lucimar
The place is always full, and not just for the francesinhas. But since we’re here to talk about them, here you have the option of ordering a half.
The francesinhas at this place are really famous in Lisbon, and they’re very good.
There’s no point in wondering whether or not it’s the best you’ll ever eat, you’ll have to go there to find out what you think.
Address: Rua Francisco Tomás da Costa 28 (Entrecampos)
Taberna Londrina
Taberna Londrina is very well known in the north of Portugal, particularly in Minho… After all, that’s where the brand was born, more specifically in Guimarães.
With restaurants in the North, including the city of Porto, you can also find Taberna Londrina’s francesinhas in Lisbon.
It should be noted that the sauce for this francesinha differs from the traditional Porto recipe, in which the sauce is spicier. On the contrary, it is sweeter.
Address: Campo Grande 35B
Dom Tacho
They say this is the only francesinha that resembles the famous Santiago’s in Porto.
That’s because the owner is from Porto and gives us the chance to eat an authentic francesinha in the heart of Campo Pequeno.
We haven’t been there several times, so here’s what we’ve been told: one day it can be excellent, and the next, a little less incredible.
We know that those looking for francesinha have a very demanding palate, so we thought we’d let you know. But in general, the house sauce is highly praised!
Address: Rua David de Sousa 19A (Campo Pequeno)
