The Open Gardens Festival is returning to Lisbon for its 14th edition, opening the “gates” of nature to all who are interested.
As a way of celebrating the union between city and nature, during the weekends of May (3-4, 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25), the gardens of the Portuguese capital will once again be transformed into living spaces for meeting, reflection and action, and admission will be free.
The theme of the 14th edition of Open Gardens
This year, the event invites visitors to imagine a more sustainable and balanced future, promoting a deep connection with the city’s green spaces, through the motto “the future we want to cultivate together”.
Among the new features are recently inaugurated gardens, such as the MACAM Garden , the Bombarda Gardens and the Penha Snail Garden , the latter the result of a collaborative process that mobilized the largest vote ever in Lisbon’s Participatory Budget.
Program and activities
Once again, the Open Gardens Festival offers a wide range of activities free of charge:
- Guided tours of historic gardens and new green spaces;
- Collective gardeningworkshops and direct contact with plants and soil;
- BioBlitzs, citizen science initiatives that involve scientists and volunteers in identifying local biodiversity;
- Collaborations with associations such as VERDE, Batoto Yetu and Biodiversity4All, who will share their visions of the city’s sustainable future.
This festival is a unique opportunity to explore the city’s hidden gardens while reflecting on the role of these green spaces in urban life. You can find the full program on the event’s official website.
