If you were still looking for a good plan for tonight, the Penha de França Parish Council has transformed the Parada do Alto de São João into a true open-air movie theater.
The idea is to get residents out of their homes andbring together neighbors, families, young people, and seniors in an informal and relaxed setting . That’s how the first edition of Open-Air Cinema in Penha came to be —an event that aims to be more than just a movie screening, positioning itself as a moment of community gathering in a public space.
To break the ice and guarantee smiles, the choice fell on one of director Leonel Vieira’s most recent films, “Pátio da Saudade,” a Portuguese comedy (for ages 12 and up) that runs approximately 95 minutes and promises a lighthearted and lively evening.
And yes, free bags of popcorn will be handed out to all participants.
A Portuguese comedy
In “Pátio da Saudade,” Vanessa (Sara Matos), a frustrated actress, inherits a run-down theater in Lisbon with one condition: she has only one month to restore the venue and premiere a new show; otherwise, she will lose her right to the inheritance.
Against the wishes of his agent, who wants to sell the building to make way for a hotel, and facing constant sabotage from a ruthless rival producer, he joins his friends in a race against time to restore the theater’s former glory.
It’s a lighthearted comedy about friendship, a love of theater , and the fight to preserve cultural heritage.
