The new h3 burger is called “h3 À La Francesinha” and is the latest “flavor” that you can try in all the stores in mainland Portugal.
As the name suggests, this is a taste of the North, an original and creative version of the iconic Porto dish Francesinha, which we love so much to eat in these Lisbon restaurants.
h3 À La Francesinha
This fast food chain’s new recipe combines the classic 200g grilled burger with a generous layer of melted cheese and a fried egg.
All of this is duly drizzled with the traditional special sauce based on tomato, onion and black beer, reminiscent of the intense flavors of the sausages and meats typical of this emblematic dish.
For Chefs Vítor Lourenço and André Estanislau, the inventors of this new delicacy,
The francesinha is an expression of indulgence, comfort and tradition. That’s why it made perfect sense to involve this heritage in our constant search for reinterpretation in the kitchen.”
This is going to “make gravy”, but only because it has a deadline
The new h3 burger will be available on the brand’s general menu, but you only have until November 27 to take advantage of the campaign that offers two points on the h3 App, which will allow you to receive a free meal even sooner.
What’s more, you can also order this recipe via the Glovo delivery platform, still earning double points.
We’ve tried it!
We love burgers on a bun, preferably pressed and “flattened” on a hot griddle, but when it comes to good ground beef served on a plate, it’s the menus from the h3 burger restaurant that are among our favorites.
As was the case with one of its latest novelties launched in the summer, the h3 Brasil, accompanied by egg, rice, black beans, sautéed cabbage and farofa – which we loved a lot – the latest delicacy from this restaurant chain draws inspiration from the North, especially from one of its typical dishes, the Francesinha.
Around here, you already know that we’re fans of this northern specialty, so it was with great anticipation that we set off in search of a store where we could try the new h3 À Lá Francesinha burger.
We chose the El Corte Inglés space, where service was reasonably quick, despite the queue at 12.30pm. We placed our order and sat down to taste the 200g of meat that promised to take us on a trip to Porto.
It was quite good, but the truth is that we were expecting something more. The taste of the typical Francesinha sauce, of which there was very little, didn’t surprise us with its usual intense sausage aromas, and the cheese seemed more like a sauce, when we were expecting one of those slices we’re used to in a real Francesinha, being replaced in this version by a cheddar cheese fondue , which was actually quite delicious.
We clearly understand that this dish is an inspiration from the traditional Invicta sandwich, so it would never be an exact copy of the real Francesinha flavors.
In this sense, yes, it’s definitely worth a try… not least because there was a lady eating the same menu next to me, and I could tell that this new h3 burger tasted very good to her.
The h3 À Lá Francesinha comes with the house’s traditional fries and rice, but honestly, the rice is completely unnecessary. For just over €10 you can order a beer, which is the best drink to accompany this dish, and you’ll have a complete menu that will satiate you for a few hours.
