The Nat’elier pastry shop, known for its chef who is always creating new flavors of pastéis de nata and for its Masterclasses, is once again hosting its own Pastel de Nata Festival, this time focusing on pairing this famous dessert with cocktails.
Between May 15 and 17, you’ll discover, among other new features, the new “Nata Pairing” menu, which invites you to try one of chef João Batalha’s many creations paired with a drink specially crafted for each flavor profile.
Music, prizes, Happy Hours, and a slightly spicy surprise

Get ready for three days where tradition and irreverence come together at the table or on the terrace of Nat’elier, at Rua de Santa Justa 87, in downtown Lisbon.
Once again, the Festival da Nata, now in its third edition, celebrates one of Portugal’s greatest symbols, this time redefining how we enjoy it by introducing pairing concepts that have been largely unexplored in Lisbon’s confectionery scene.
The “Nata Pairing” menu promises to elevate the experience of eating a pastel de nata, making it even more sensory by pairing drinks with one of the many flavors available at the pastry shop, such as the return of the hibiscus flavor, which adds a floral and slightly tart note to the traditional recipe, and an absolute novelty, which resulted from a challenge proposed by chef João Batalha… but we’ll get to that later!

Just like in previous editions, the atmosphere at the Nat’elier store (and outside) will be one of non-stop celebration, and as the pastéis de nata come fresh out of the oven, you’ll also be able to dance to the beats of a live DJ; Happy Hours at specific times, with offers and perks for visitors, plus plenty of entertainment and surprises for anyone passing through this part of downtown.
The secret pastry: “Fogo do Tejo”

One of these surprises will be the chance to taste one of Chef João Batalha’s latest creations, this time with a little “help” from Lisboa Secreta… that is to say, we just suggested a few ingredients: “Fogo do Tejo.”
This pastry, which we’ve already tasted and found incredible (but we’re biased, aren’t we?) , is made with chocolate, piri-piri, and fleur de sel. But hold on— it’s not just any chocolate bar, it’s not your typical spice, and the salt crystals aren’t even the kind we usually use at home every day.

The basis for this idea took into account the historical connection to cocoa from São Tomé and Príncipe (which many restaurants use in their mousses); the piri-piri from our roasted chickens, which is also part of memories of India and will be infused with subtle notes (just to give that little warmth in the mouth); and salt, in this case Alcochete fleur de sel, sprinkled over a chocolate topping (which melts with the heat of the pastry itself) and dried chili peppers.
And inside? That’s the best part— warm and explosive— but we can’t reveal everything, can we? So, May 15, 16, and 17 might be your only chance to taste this true Lisbon delicacy.
Secret Lisbon Tip: order your “Fogo do Tejo” with a Ginja Sour… it’ll taste really good, we promise!
