Lisbon has plenty of ways to spend your free time, but few begin beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge and offer the chance to observe magnificent wildlife in its natural habitat. On this dolphin-watching tour , organized by SeaEO Tours, you’ll depart from Alcântara for a sort of maritime safari through the Tagus Estuary and the Atlantic Ocean.
In all, the boat tour lasts about three hours and is unique in that it’s led by a marine biologist. So, while you enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape, you’ll learn more about the dolphins, their behavior, and the ecosystem in which they live. Between the river and the sea, this is a way to slow down and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind, taking in the view of Lisbon from the water.

An intimate yet unpredictable adventure
The trip takes place aboard a semi-rigid boat with jockey-style seats and a capacity for 12 people. Couples, groups of friends, or families can choose this option, and children over the age of four are also welcome.
This ensures a more intimate and less crowded experience, without disturbing the animals. However, it’s important to remember that this is wildlife: the dolphins live in the wild, so each outing involves some unpredictability.
Still, there are good reasons for optimism. According to the SeaEO Tours website, the sighting rate on its tours was 95% or higher between 2020 and 2025. This percentage reflects the operator’s historical data and does not guarantee dolphin sightings on every outing.
What should you know before you go?
Before embarking on this adventure to spot common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and striped dolphins —or even other species—it’s important to come properly prepared: bring warm clothes, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen. And don’t forget your camera to capture any jumps and acrobatic maneuvers by these wonderful marine creatures.
