Lisbon has just taken a giant step forward for soft mobility and the urban future: the 105-metre cycle bridge over Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho, designed by renowned architect António Braga, was inaugurated today.
The new link connects the central axis of the city – Alvalade and Campo Grande – to the eastern zone, easily linking neighborhoods such as Marvila, Olivais and Parque das Nações.
Highlights of the new infrastructure
The cycle-pedestrian bridge is imposing, with a span of 105 meters, designed to encourage active and sustainable mobility. The cycle path has also been rehabilitated with 525 meters of cycle track, guaranteeing maximum safety and comfort.
New pedestrian circuits were also created: 215 meters entirely dedicated to pedestrians, with a direct connection to the garden over the viaduct, with even more green space and leisure: a new garden and enjoyment area, integrated into the urban landscape and open to the community.
The inauguration of the new cycle-pedestrian bridge was presided over by Carlos Moedas, who highlighted the commitment of the City Council and EMEL to promoting soft modes of transport, putting Lisbon on the map of increasingly environmentally and people-friendly cities:
Soft modes of transport are becoming more and more important,” said Moedas during the ceremony.
With this investment, the Portuguese capital not only promotes sustainable mobility, but also enhances public space and encourages quality of life.
