Established by the United Nations (UN) in 1975, International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8. This year, the date coincides with a weekend, further opening up the possibility of themed activities.
Between gastronomic and cultural initiatives, the options are varied and can be enjoyed alone or with others. Either way, it is important to note that the meaning of International Women’s Day goes deeper than a ‘busy schedule’.
This is because International Women’s Day was established to mark the struggle for gender equality, with the aim of promoting greater awareness of the issue. Therefore, more than just a day, this spirit should always be present.
Brunch at the InterContinental Lisbon

Getting your friends together around the table is always a good idea, especially to celebrate Women’s Day. On Sunday (March 8), the InterContinental Lisbon marks the date with a trendybrunch that is different from the usual.
In this special, themed edition, everything is served at the table, carefully plated and elegantly presented. To welcome you, the experience includes a delicate Lollipop Bouquet. Then comes the ‘banquet’.
The menu includes starters and, of course, brunch classics, but presented with a new twist: scrambled eggs and Benedict versions with bacon, smoked salmon, or avocado, a selection of cheeses and cold cuts, and crispy bacon.
To enjoy this experience, you must book by phone at 213818700, by email at akla.restaurant@ihg.com, or on the InterContinental Lisbon website .
Bloom – Women’s Wellness Day

If, instead of the ‘traditional’ brunch, you prefer an initiative linked to well-being and self-care, the Sheraton Cascais Resort is promoting “Bloom – Women’s Wellness Day.”
On March 8, starting at 9:30 a.m., the special program includes various activities, such as moments of sharing, a Pilates class accompanied by live cello music, a snack-making workshop, and a lunch featuring healthy recipes.
Reservations can be made by phone or by email at serenity.spa@sheratoncascais.com.
Exhibition “Treasure of the Queens”

Gastronomic and wellness events are always a good idea, but so are cultural initiatives. On International Women’s Day, March 8, the Royal Treasury Museum is promoting a guided tour, between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., of the exhibition “Treasure of the Queens.”
This is a special exhibition, closely linked to the women of the royal family, from queens to princesses, not forgetting the queen consorts. In this sense, the royal jewels help to recall the stories, challenges, and achievements of many female figures.
Guided tours require prior booking by email at servicoeducativo@tesouroreal.com or by phone at 211 160 992.
“The Vaginas and Me”

If you like humor, there is a show waiting for you on International Women’s Day: “As Vaginas e Eu – Tudo o que ficou por dizer” (The Vaginas and Me – Everything that was left unsaid). On Sunday, March 8, Teresa Guilherme takes to the stage at Coliseu dos Recreios, one of Lisbon’s most iconic venues, to address women’s ‘secret conversations’.
In an interactive way, Teresa Guilherme aims to break taboos and prejudices that continue to be a reality for women.
“Lisbon in Feminine” tour

On March 14, the theme of International Women’s Day remains the same, but the proposal is completely different from previous ones.
Organized by the Peddy+ team , the “Lisbon in the feminine” tour pays tribute to the women who have left their mark on the city, some well-known, others not so much.
Meeting at Praça do Comércio, the themed tour lasts about three hours and costs €16. Registration can be done by email at info@peddymais.com or by phone (914 773 836).
