Observing astronomical phenomena is a passion for many, especially those who love photography, taking advantage of unique moments to eternalize them for posterity. The best part? The New Year arrives with the first of three Supermoons planned for 2026, specifically on January 3rd.
What is a Supermoon?

According to information from the specialized website “Star Walk”, January’s Full Moon, known as the “Wolf Moon”, is considered a Supermoon. This is because it has a slightly larger diameter and a more intense glow when compared to an ordinary Full Moon.
This visual change is related to the position of the Moon in its trajectory around the Earth. At certain times, the natural satellite comes closer to the planet, reaching the so-called perigee which, in this case, will place the Moon at around 362,000 kilometers.
The mystique of the “Wolf Moon”

Like other Full Moons, its name derives from the traditions of the indigenous peoples of North America, referring to the cold winter nights when the howling of wolves echoed through the forests.
