With the return of good weather and spring, we’ re increasingly in the mood for outdoor activities. If that’s your thing, here’s a suggestion: “Walking in the Tagus Viewpoints”.
The initiative, organized by the company Caminhando, is scheduled for April 5 (Saturday), departing at 9.30 a.m. and returning at 2.30 p.m., with the meeting point being the Lidl parking lot in Povos (Vila Franca de Xira).
What can I expect from the viewpoint walk?
According to the promoter’s official website, the aim is to walk through a heavily wooded area, but always at a high enough altitude to enjoy magnificent views of the Lezíria and the River Tagus.
In all, the route is 16 km long, with an expected duration of around 5 hours, so it is recommended that you wear suitable footwear and clothing.
In addition to the natural beauty of the landscape, the route includes a strong historical component, with the following points of interest standing out :
- Capela do Senhor da Boa Morte (Chapel of the Lord of Good Death ) – built in the 16th century, the temple stands isolated on a terrace with impressive views; nearby are the ruins of the manor house of the Count of Castanheira, the remains of the Castle and a necropolis.
- Quinta da Fábrica – with a large leisure area
- Monte dos Castelinhos – with traces of ancient civilizations, among others.
