Anyone strolling through Parque das Nações now has a new reason to take a break for a meal. Moving away from the typical spots designed exclusively for tourists, the Lisbon Oceanarium now hosts a true celebration of authentic Portuguese flavors.
Submerso opened its doors on July 17 with a simple and straightforward concept: serving traditional Portuguese dishes against the backdrop of the Tagus River.
Must-try appetizers
Submerso’s menu sets aside unnecessary reinventions to focus on what the Portuguese know best: comfort food, prepared with fresh, seasonal , and locally sourced ingredients .
The menu is designed for both those who want a full meal and those looking just to snack in the late afternoon.
For sharing, the restaurant suggests the must-try classics from traditional Portuguese taverns:
- Peixinhos da Horta (€6)
- Octopus Salad (€9.50)
- Pica-Pau (€15)
If you’re looking for a more substantial main course, your attention will turn to the hearty family-style dishes, with highlights including Bacalhau à Brás (€16), Arroz de Polvo (€16), Barriga de Porco (€16), and the traditional Bitoque (€16.50).
The meal is rounded out with desserts typical of Portuguese homes: Arroz-Doce (€5), Chocolate Mousse (€6), and the iconic Pastel de Nata (€2).
To accompany the meal, the wine list makes no secret of its national preference. There’s a carefully curated selection of wines from various wine-growing regions across the country, as well as domestic beer, ideal for pairing with the appetizers.
Inside, you can feel the Tagus
Located inside the Lisbon Oceanarium, the restaurant has 70 seats in the indoor dining room and a counter with seating for 12 people, designed for quicker meals.
At a later stage, the project also plans to open an outdoor terrace to make the most of the spectacular view of the Tagus.
