Astronomical phenomena tend to intensify in summer, which is the perfect time to observe them more clearly due to the better weather conditions. And on the night of Wednesday the 10th, it will be possible to contemplate the dazzling full moon of July.
Known as the ‘Full Deer Moon’, get ready to literally observe the lunar satellite in the starry night, either with the naked eye or with binoculars and a telescope. But why is it called that? And when will the moon reach its peak?

When to watch the July full moon?
According to the website “Meteored. Tempo” website , the ‘Full Moon of the Deer’ will shine on July 10, at 9:37 p.m. (time in mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, minus one hour in the Autonomous Region of the Azores).
Why is it called that?
July’s full moon is known as the Deer Moon, as it coincides with the time of year when the young of this species begin their development.
In fact, this name is widespread, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, and is related to the traditions of the indigenous peoples of North America.
This name, which reflects the regeneration of the deer’s antlers, is intended to convey an idea of renewal and the strength of nature.
In addition to this nomenclature, there are other names used to designate this phase, such as the Midsummer Moon or the Thunder Moon.

Next opportunity?
According to the StarWalkwebsite, the next ‘Full Deer Moon’ will take place next year, on July 29.
However, don’t despair, because until the end of 2025 you’ll still have more opportunities to enjoy stunning phases of the moon, such as the August Full Moon, scheduled for the 9th of that month.
