In Lisbon, there are many good gardens and green spaces that invite you to take long walks in the fresh air. But what do you do when it’s time to go home? If you want to add a little greenery to your home, it’s important to choose the right plants, especially in the absence of much light.
For those who want to have a little ‘green oasis’ at home, or feel more at ease with the surrounding greenery, we’ve prepared a brief list of some plants that need little light. Best of all, they are easy to look after and therefore perfect for beginners.
Zamioculcas
Known as the ZZ plant or lucky plant, it is very hardy, which is why it is often chosen to decorate interiors and dimly lit environments.
In fact, it’s an excellent choice for beginners, especially those who are more negligent. Zamioculcas forgives almost any mistake.
From lack of watering to too little sun, there are few scenarios that scare it. In this sense, it’s a great place to start your ‘indoor garden’!
Calathea
Its light green and purple leaves make it the star of any apartment. Of exotic origin, Calathea doesn’t need too much water or direct sunlight. It also has the ability to purify the air.
Although it doesn’t need a lot of light, be careful not to plunge it completely into semi-darkness. The pattern of the leaves may disappear. We recommend that you spray the leaves regularly with a little water.
Sansevieria
Hailing from West Africa, Sansevieria (commonly known as St. George’s Sword, or ‘envy plant’) is ultra-resistant and flexible. In other words, it adapts just as easily to bright spaces as to dark areas.
As far as water is concerned, Sansevieria doesn’t need to be over-watered. In fact, from March to October, once a week is enough to keep it beautiful and healthy.
Aglaonema
With large, showy leaves in different shades and patterns, Aglaonema is perfect for those taking their first steps into the world of plants.
Aglaonema doesn’t like direct sunlight, as the light gives its leaves a brown tinge. For this reason, it does best in places like the bathroom or kitchen, in dimly lit environments.
It should be noted that it prefers little water and can’t stand too cold, dry or windy environments.
They are often used to decorate offices and shopping malls, but we’re sure they’ll look even better in your home!
