The Lisbon Metro has already received the new carriages that will modernize the subway public transport fleet and improve mobility for all passengers.
Scheduled to be operational in early 2025, the new ML20 series carriages are part of Metro de Lisboa’s plan to improve the efficiency, comfort and accessibility of this public passenger transport.
The new Metro carriages, very similar to the longitudinal seating system we see in other world cities such as New York, promise to transform the experience for all users, as they provide more space for movement inside.
In addition, the new wagons also offer larger windows and lighter interiors, capable of bringing in new light and comfort.
The spaces dedicated to wheelchairs, bicycles and bulky luggage have also been taken into account, now more spacious and easily accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Also noteworthy are the new climate control systems and digital panels that provide real-time information to all passengers.
These will only be the first 42 carriages in this series, and Metro de Lisboa has already signed a new contract for the acquisition of 72 new ML24-type carriages, which will bring new technologies to the city’s metropolitan network, namely more efficient management of train intervals between journeys.
