I’m sure you’re looking forward to the arrival of summer. Here are some suggestions to get to know as soon as the heat arrives. 🏞️🌞
The weather is getting warmer and milder as we approach the summer vacations. Whether it’s a week away or a weekend getaway, you can’t go wrong with a variety of destinations.
So, for those who enjoy contact with nature and exploring the corners of our Portugal, we’ ve gone in search of the most beautiful natural pools and waterfalls to visit this year.
Our country has been blessed with many different natural wonders and so our suggestion is to plan an itinerary to visit them all. This is because we find having to choose very difficult (and, around here, we don’t want to make that choice).
All over the country, there’s always something to visit and experience and if you’re not going this year, start making a wish list for next year. Here are some ideas and suggestions if you’re interested in visiting some natural pools and waterfalls.
Cabreira Waterfall, Sever do Vouga
It’s about 25 meters high and is one of Portugal’s most beautiful paradises. It’s located in the Cabreira Leisure Park, so it’s also an excellent alternative for a full day out.
Fonte dos Amores, Boticas
It has trails and boardwalks for those who like such adventures and then you reach this magnificent natural pool. To get there you can choose to take the Rota das Levadas walking route, which is about five kilometers long.
Poço da Gola, Peneda-Gerês National Park
Gerês is already a popular destination for its natural beauty. It’s impossible to remain indifferent to the richness of its surroundings. That’s why, although it’s already a well-known destination, it’s also one that’s always on many people’s bucket lists. This is just one of the many natural pools and waterfalls to be found in this park.
Loriga river beach, Seia
Located in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, its construction and clear water are some of the reasons why this is one of the most beautiful places in Portugal.
Queda do Vigário, Loulé
Also known as the Alte Waterfall, this is one of Portugal’s natural paradises to the south. The waterfall is about 24 meters high and falls into a lake of crystal-clear water that captivates anyone who passes by. Definitely a place to visit!
Meadas Leisure Park, Cerva
It belongs to Vila Real and is located in the small town of Cerva. It also has a natural swimming pool for children and is perfect for those who want to cool off and contemplate a 100% natural landscape.
Mourão River Waterfall, Sintra
Also known as Cascata de Anços, this waterfall is one of Portugal’s hidden paradises that is worth discovering.
Frecha da Mizarela Waterfall, Serra da Freita
It belongs to Arouca and is the highest waterfall in Portugal, at around 75 meters high. It is imposing and beautiful, and the landscape that surrounds it is breathtaking.
