Between May 2 and May 5, service at the Rossio, Baixa-Chiado, and Cais do Sodré stations will be suspended.
During these four days, to get to downtown or the riverside area, you’ll really have to rearrange your schedule: we’ll explain the reasons behind this Lisbon Metro project, as well as the possible alternatives.
Which dates and stations are affected?

The reasons are related to construction work on the future Circular Line, which will result in the closure of these stations between May 2 (Saturday) and May 5 (Tuesday), during which time the network’s operations will undergo the following adjustments:
- Shortened route
- Stations without the Green Line
- What remains unchanged
Service will resume its usual route between Telheiras and Cais do Sodré on the morning of Wednesday, May 6.
How to get around the closure: Carris alternatives

To mitigate this disruption, Lisbon Metro recommends using the Carris network. Depending on where you are in downtown Lisbon, these will be the fastest options to reach the Cais do Sodré interchange:
- From Martim Moniz
- From Praça da Figueira
- From Rossio
Cais do Sodré with changes until summer

It should also be noted that the Cais do Sodré station will undergo further major changes, operating with a temporary platform, possibly until the end of July 2026.
This adjustment aims to facilitate the heavy flow of passengers at one of the capital’s largest transit hubs while the station remains under construction.
Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027, the Circular Line will add another two kilometers to the Lisbon network, as well as two new stations (Estrela and Santos), linking the current Yellow and Green lines in a new circular loop in central Lisbon, promising to directly connect passengers from trains in Cascais, Sintra, and the south bank.
