If you’re looking for something very different to do in the city of Lisbon, you already know that at Lisboa Secreta you can always find the best suggestions and tips. And our most recent experience took us to see a piece of immersive theater in Lisbon that everyone is talking about on social media: we ‘ ve been to see “The Death of the Raven”, and there’s nothing comparable in the city, if there is anything in Portugal. On Google Reviews it has a score of 4.8 out of 5. Wow!!!
This incredible and highly acclaimed live theater piece, which has already sold out several seasons with thousands of spectators, brings together the alienated minds of Edgar Allan Poe and Fernando Pessoa to immerse you in an intimate spectacle unlike anything you’ve ever seen or been a part of.
From an initiation forest to a burlesque cabaret or an opium den, the settings are literally otherworldly,” says Nuno Moreira, the show’s creator and artistic director.
More than 28 rooms in an enigmatic labyrinth
To take part in what is already considered to be one of the most outstanding experiences in the city of Lisbon – by many visitors who have already taken part more than once – all you have to do is book your ticket and show up at the appointed time at the Old Military Hospital of Estrela, very close to the Estrela Garden and Basilica.
Once there, you’ll be asked to put on a mask over your eyes, the mask of the Order of Crows, so that you can feel the suspense even more as you travel back in time to 1924.
This immersive theater show takes place in an old hospital with more than 28 rooms and lasts 100 minutes, which you’ll use to go through the various rooms and floors, “chasing” your favorite characters, so that at the end you can draw your own conclusions.
Because there isn’t just one story, it’s quite possible that you and your friends will follow a completely different narrative, which makes “The Death of the Raven” a unique play and an unparalleled experience in the capital.
All the action takes place without the use of any kind of lines or dialogues, so you’ll only have your wits about you to “read” the facial expressions and body movements of the now 10 characters, one more than in previous editions.
The story
This immersive theater piece in Lisbon tells us about Edgar Allan Poe’s Machiavellian plan to assassinate Fernando Pessoa, who ends up inviting his friend Mário de Sá-Carneiro to take part in an initiation ritual into the Order of the Crows, a society that seeks the secret of life beyond death, led by Allan Edgar Poe.
This will be the basis of the story, because from here you will have to unravel, in your head, the chain of events that will culminate in a final scene that will leave you speechless.
The whole atmosphere of the show makes you a participant in the narrative, which is very intense and passionate.
