We’ve been won over by Asian food for a long time and the truth is that gyozas hold a special place in our hearts – and our stomachs.
Our eyes glaze over when we think of sushi, but when we talk about gyozas we swear eternal love.
Some call them dumplings, others call them Asian ravioli, but what really matters is that they are delicious and that there are a few places in Lisbon where you can enjoy this delicacy. In this article, we’ve put together a list of four restaurants where you can try gyozas.
Table Of Contents
The Old House
The Old House is a restaurant dedicated to Chinese cuisine, but it’s not just any Chinese restaurant.
The menu features original and well-executed suggestions – the focus is on food from Sichuan province, considered to be the spiciest in China.
At this restaurant in Parque das Nações, there are several options for gyozas: “The Old House”, made with pork and chives; shrimp; and shrimp with caviar, an unexpected but delicious recipe.
You can also opt for the fried mushrooms with fried shrimp gyozas, which are very crispy and tasty.
Address: Rua Pimenta 9 (Parque das Nações)
KOPPU RAMEN + Izakaya
KOPPU is a place in Príncipe Real dedicated to traditional Japanese noodle soups, but its menu is eclectic and features a varied selection of Japanese starters and tapas.
For those who love gyozas, there are four options: chicken and vegetable gyozas; pork and vegetable gyozas; pork and shrimp gyozas and vegetarian gyozas with only vegetables.
Address: Rua do Salitre 131A (Príncipe Real)
Dim Sum Lounge
Floor 1 of the Amoreiras Shopping Center brings us Dim Sum, a restaurant dedicated to the small steamed dumplings that bear the same name as the space: dim sum.
Ideal for a light lunch, but full of flavor, the space reserves a section on the menu for the “Gyoza Lounge”, where it presents the varieties available: duck , chicken, chicken with curry , cod, shrimp and vegetables.
We swear they all look divine – it will be hard to choose!
Address: Amoreiras Shopping Center, Floor 1 (Amoreiras)
UDON
UDON’s proposal is a trip to Asia with a focus on noodles. It’s true that we also love food served in bowls (ramen or yakisoba make our mouths water), but here we want to talk about izakayas – Asian-inspired snacks made to order and ideal for sharing.
In this area of the menu are the gyozas, available in five varieties: chicken curry; prawns with fresh garlic; vegetables; pork or the “mixed gyozas”, with four gyozas of each option.
Address: Avenida Duque de Ávila 46 (Saldanha)
AFURI
AFURI is a traditional Japanese food house where the ramen portions shine, but its gyozas are second to none, made daily in different ways: steamed, fried and in soup.
If you want to try the best you can, for example, order the Wingedbuta Gyoza, where for just 10 euros you get eight of these steamed dumplings stuffed with pork and served with soy sauce and chives.
Address: Avenida D.João II, Lote 45 (Parque das Nações); Rua Paiva de Andrade 7-13 (Chiado)
